Key Responsibilities

  • Prepare, review, and verify lifting plans, method statements, risk assessments, and lifting procedures for routine and critical lifting operations.
  • Perform lifting calculations, including load weights, crane capacity, lifting radius, boom configuration, ground-bearing pressure, and load distribution.
  • Select appropriate cranes, lifting equipment, rigging accessories, and lifting configurations based on project requirements.
  • Assess lifting operations involving mobile cranes, crawler cranes, tower cranes, telehandlers, and other lifting machinery, as applicable.
  • Review crane load charts, lifting capacities, rigging arrangements, and equipment specifications to ensure operational suitability.
  • Coordinate with project managers, site engineers, crane operators, riggers, and lifting supervisors to ensure safe and efficient execution of lifting activities.
  • Conduct site inspections to assess ground conditions, access routes, overhead obstructions, underground services, and other potential lifting hazards.
  • Ensure that lifting equipment, including slings, shackles, hooks, wire ropes, and spreader beams, is certified, inspected, and suitable for the intended operation.
  • Verify the validity of third-party inspection certificates for cranes and lifting accessories, as required by project and regulatory standards.
  • Develop and implement safe lifting procedures in accordance with approved lifting plans and applicable safety requirements.
  • Provide technical guidance to lifting supervisors, riggers, crane operators, and site teams regarding lifting arrangements and safe operating practices.
  • Participate in toolbox talks, lifting coordination meetings, and safety briefings before critical lifting operations.
  • Ensure that lifting operations are conducted by competent, authorized, and appropriately certified personnel.
  • Monitor compliance with lifting plans and stop operations if unsafe conditions, equipment defects, or deviations from approved procedures are identified.
  • Investigate lifting-related incidents, near misses, and equipment failures, and recommend corrective and preventive actions.
  • Maintain accurate records of lifting plans, risk assessments, equipment certificates, inspection reports, and lifting-related documentation.
  • Coordinate with the maintenance team to ensure the availability, inspection, and operational readiness of cranes and lifting equipment.
  • Support project teams in the planning and execution of complex, tandem, heavy, and other critical lifting operations.

Qualifications and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Civil Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
  • Minimum 5–8 years of relevant experience in lifting engineering, crane operations, or heavy lifting within the construction, industrial, or PMV sector.
  • UAE/GCC experience in lifting operations is preferred or mandatory, depending on project requirements.
  • Proven experience preparing and reviewing lifting plans, method statements, and risk assessments.
  • Strong knowledge of crane capacities, load charts, rigging arrangements, lifting calculations, and equipment limitations.
  • Familiarity with applicable UAE lifting regulations, client requirements, and recognized international standards, such as relevant BS, EN, and ASME standards.
  • Knowledge of lifting equipment inspection, certification, and safe working load (SWL) requirements.
  • Relevant lifting engineering or appointed-person training and certification, where required by the project or client, is an advantage.
