Light Commercial HVAC/R Service Technician

Responsibilities

• Diagnose and repair HVAC/R systems including air conditioning units, refrigeration equipment, boilers, and mechanical systems using schematics and technical manuals.
• Perform preventative maintenance on HVAC systems to ensure reliable operation and extend equipment lifespan.
• Install new HVAC/R equipment following manufacturer specifications and industry standards, including ductwork, piping, electrical connections, and controls.
• Troubleshoot electrical diagnostics, electrical systems, building automation systems, and refrigeration components to identify root causes of issues.
• Use hand tools, ohmmeters, and other diagnostic equipment to conduct equipment troubleshooting and repairs efficiently.
• Maintain detailed service reports, logs, and documentation of all work performed for quality assurance and customer records.
• Provide exceptional customer service by explaining repairs clearly and ensuring client satisfaction with all service interactions.

Requirements

• Proven experience as a service technician with construction experience preferred.
• Strong mechanical knowledge of HVAC/R systems including air conditioning, refrigeration (including ammonia refrigeration), boilers, and mechanical systems repair.
• Ability to read schematics, wiring diagrams, and HVAC design plans accurately.
• Hands-on experience with HVAC system installation, maintenance, and repair in commercial settings.
• Proficiency in electrical diagnostics, troubleshooting electrical systems, building automation systems, and plumbing related to HVAC/R equipment.
• Familiarity with refrigerants (EPA certification required), and HVAC system repair techniques.
• Skilled in using hand tools such as wrenches, screwdrivers, ohmmeters, and other diagnostic tools for field service work.
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record; van driver experience is a plus.
• Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly.
• Mechanical or technical certifications related to HVAC/R are highly desirable; ongoing training encouraged.
