What they need
The Borough Market Bistro is looking for an experienced, motivated, and professional Line Cook to join our culinary team. We are an independent, chef-driven restaurant focused on elevated/comforting bistro cuisine, quality ingredients, scratch cooking, and a dining experience that is both refined and approachable. We take pride in what leaves our kitchen, and we are looking for someone who shares that pride. This is an opportunity for the right cook to become part of a kitchen where standards matter, creativity is encouraged, and there is genuine opportunity to grow.
THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for a cook who already understands the fundamentals of working in a professional kitchen and is ready to take their skills to the next level. You should be comfortable working in a fast-paced environment, maintaining consistency during busy service, communicating with a team, and taking ownership of your station. This is not an entry-level position for someone with no professional kitchen experience. We are looking for someone who has experience in a commercial kitchen and understands the expectations that come with working in a quality-driven restaurant. At the same time, we are not looking for someone who simply wants to show up, punch the clock, and go home. We want someone who is interested in becoming a better cook, learning new techniques, understanding food, and contributing to the success of the kitchen.
WHAT YOU'LL BE RESPONSIBLE FOR
Working efficiently and confidently on your assigned station
Completing daily prep and mise en place to service standards
Properly seasoning, cooking, plating, and presenting food
Maintaining consistency in portioning, presentation, temperature, and quality
Working cleanly and efficiently throughout service
Communicating effectively with the Chef and kitchen team
Maintaining proper food safety, sanitation, and storage procedures
Following proper FIFO and food-handling practices
Assisting with receiving, organization, and proper storage of product
Assisting other stations when required
Contributing to opening and closing duties
Taking direction well while also being capable of working independently
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
The ideal candidate will have:
Previous professional kitchen experience
Experience working a line in a restaurant environment
A solid understanding of basic cooking techniques
An understanding of mise en place and station organization
The ability to work efficiently under pressure
Strong attention to detail
Pride in food quality and presentation
A professional attitude and appearance
The ability to maintain composure and professionalism during busy services
THE RIGHT FIT
We are particularly interested in someone who takes pride in their work, cares about what goes on the plate and don't cut corners simply because nobody is watching. Even experienced cooks should always be improving. We want someone who is interested in learning new techniques, ingredients, preparations and who can take direction from senior staff members. A professional kitchen requires communication, accountability, and the ability to accept coaching without taking it personally. We believe a strong kitchen is built around teamwork, everyone has a station, but everyone is responsible for the success of the service.
WHAT WE OFFER
A position in a chef-driven, independent restaurant
A professional and respectful kitchen environment
The opportunity to work with quality ingredients and elevated bistro cuisine
Hands-on experience with scratch cooking and from-the-ground-up preparation
Opportunities to learn new techniques and expand your culinary skill set
A kitchen where your ideas and initiative are valued
EXPERIENCE
Previous professional restaurant kitchen experience required. Preferred 1–3+ years of experience in a professional kitchen setting.
HOURS
This is a part-time role, with hours based on restaurant operations and the candidate's availability. Evening, weekend availability is required. Restaurant experience will be considered carefully when determining starting wage and responsibilities.
IMPORTANT Please do not apply if you have never worked in a professional kitchen. We are happy to train the right person on our menu, our systems, and our standards. We are not looking to teach someone the fundamentals of working in a restaurant kitchen from the ground up. If this is you, please keep an eye open on future employment opportunity, this role specifically requires previous/current professional experience.
If you are an experienced cook who takes your craft seriously, enjoys working with a strong team, and wants to be part of a restaurant that genuinely cares about food and hospitality, please submit your resume through Indeed outlining your previous kitchen experience. Please also feel free to email directly at [email protected] or apply in person during regular operating hours. Applicants selected for an interview will be contacted
