What they need
Line & Prep Cook — Cowtown Tavern
Cowtown Tavern is hiring a dependable, hardworking Line & Prep Cook to join our kitchen team. We’re a busy neighborhood tavern and sports bar in the Jacksonville area, serving quality scratch-prepared food in a fast-paced, high-energy environment.
This is a hands-on kitchen role for someone who takes pride in consistency, cleanliness, speed, and putting out food they would be proud to serve.
What You’ll Do
Prep fresh ingredients, sauces, dressings, proteins, vegetables, and menu components according to recipes and portion standards.
Work assigned line stations during service, including fry, grill, sauté, pantry, or expo as needed.
Cook and plate menu items accurately, consistently, and on ticket-time standards.
Follow recipe specs, portion controls, presentation standards, and food-safety procedures.
Set up, stock, break down, and clean workstations before, during, and after each shift.
Rotate products properly using FIFO; label, date, and store food safely.
Help receive, organize, and put away deliveries when needed.
Communicate clearly with cooks, servers, bartenders, and managers during busy shifts.
Maintain a clean, organized kitchen and complete assigned side work and closing duties.
Support the team wherever needed—including catering, special events, game days, and high-volume shifts.
What We’re Looking For
Previous line-cook, prep-cook, restaurant-kitchen, or high-volume food-service experience is preferred.
Ability to work quickly and stay organized during busy lunch, dinner, late-night, weekend, and game-day service.
Comfortable using commercial kitchen equipment including fryers, grills, ovens, coolers, freezers, knives, and food-prep equipment.
Strong understanding of food safety, sanitation, temperature control, cross-contamination prevention, and proper handwashing.
Reliable transportation and dependable attendance are essential.
Ability to stand for extended periods, lift up to 50 pounds, bend, reach, and work in a hot, fast-paced kitchen.
Positive attitude, sense of urgency, and willingness to learn.
Team-first mindset—no drama, no excuses, and no cutting corners.
Schedule & Pay
Full-time and part-time opportunities may be available.
Day, night, weekend, and game-day availability is strongly preferred.
Competitive pay based on experience, skill level, availability, and performance.
Opportunity to grow into lead cook, kitchen supervisor, or other back-of-house leadership roles.
