Break Room Cafe is a growing breakfast and lunch café in East Setauket, NY, specializing in freshly prepared food, specialty coffee, and catering.

We’re looking for a motivated, reliable, and experienced kitchen professional to join our culinary team. This is an excellent opportunity for someone who takes pride in their work, enjoys a fast-paced kitchen environment, and wants to grow with an expanding business.

Position Overview

The ideal candidate will be responsible for daily food preparation, executing menu items, maintaining kitchen organization, and ensuring consistent food quality.

We’re looking for someone who can work independently, manage their time efficiently, and take initiative without constant supervision.

This position will initially be part-time, with the opportunity to transition into a full-time role based on performance and business needs.

Key Responsibilities

• Prepare ingredients daily, including proteins, vegetables, sauces, dressings, and other menu components.
• Cook and assemble breakfast sandwiches, wraps, paninis, salads, burgers, and other café specialties.
• Follow standardized recipes and portion guidelines to maintain food quality and consistency.
• Prepare and organize ingredients ahead of breakfast and lunch rushes.
• Assist with preparing, assembling, and packaging catering orders.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and fully stocked workstation.
• Monitor ingredient levels and communicate inventory or purchasing needs.
• Follow proper food storage, labeling, rotation, and sanitation procedures.
• Minimize food waste through proper preparation and portion control.
• Work efficiently with other kitchen team members during busy service periods.
• Take initiative in identifying tasks that need to be completed and opportunities to improve kitchen operations.

Qualifications

• Previous experience in a restaurant, café, deli, or professional kitchen preferred.
• Experience with food preparation and line cooking.
• Strong knife skills and knowledge of basic cooking techniques.
• Ability to multitask and remain organized in a fast-paced environment.
• Understanding of food safety and sanitation practices.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to consistency.
• Dependable, punctual, and able to work independently.
• Positive attitude and willingness to contribute to a team.
