Role Description The Linguist role at Sphinx is a full-time, on-site position located in Stafford, VA. The Linguist will perform translation, transcription, and interpretation of materials and communications, ensuring accurate and context-aware language support for intelligence, security, and technical operations. Daily tasks include analyzing language data, identifying culturally relevant nuances, preparing clear written reports, and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to support mission objectives. The role may involve reviewing and validating translated materials, maintaining terminology databases or glossaries, and following established security and confidentiality protocols. The Linguist will work closely with other professionals to align language services with client requirements and evolving operational needs.

Qualifications

• Demonstrated proficiency in one or more target languages and English, including strong skills in translation, transcription, and interpretation.
• Experience applying linguistic analysis to technical, intelligence, or security-related content, with attention to cultural and contextual nuances.
• Strong written communication skills for producing clear, concise reports and documentation tailored to operational and client needs.
• Ability to work on-site in Stafford, VA, collaborating effectively with cross-functional teams while maintaining discretion and professionalism.
• Familiarity with intelligence, defense, or cyber domains, or willingness to learn and operate in highly technical mission environments.
• High level of integrity, sound judgment, and commitment to ethical standards and client confidentiality.
• Bachelor’s degree in Linguistics, Languages, International Studies, or a related field, or equivalent relevant experience.
• Experience with translation tools, terminology management, or language technology platforms is beneficial.
• Ability to obtain and maintain any required security clearances, subject to client and contractual needs.
