Linux System Engineer

Disruptive IT is recruiting 3 experienced Linux System Engineers for a hybrid opportunity based in Johannesburg.

We are looking for strong Linux professionals with solid hands-on experience in enterprise Red Hat environments, infrastructure administration, virtualisation, automation and production support.

The successful candidates will primarily be responsible for Linux system administration, supporting production and UAT environments, and working within an infrastructure landscape that has recently migrated from Red Hat Enterprise Virtualisation (RHEV) to Nutanix AHV and Red Hat OpenShift Virtualisation. Key Responsibilities

* Perform daily Linux infrastructure health checks across production and UAT environments.

* Monitor CPU, memory, disk utilisation, system load and failed services.

* Review system logs and proactively investigate errors and warnings.

* Ensure critical services remain available and responsive.

* Monitor inode and disk-space utilisation to prevent service interruptions.

* Triage and resolve incidents, service requests and change requests.

* Communicate ticket progress and resolutions to relevant stakeholders.

* Escalate complex incidents to senior technical teams or vendors where required.

* Administer email server environments, including Zimbra.

* Install, configure and support Linux servers.

* Deploy and manage technologies including Red Hat Satellite and Ansible.

* Develop and maintain Ansible playbooks for patching, configuration management and automation.

* Support Linux workloads running across Nutanix AHV and Red Hat OpenShift Virtualisation.

* Perform operating-system updates and security patching.

* Maintain security, stability, performance and compliance across supported systems.

* Manage user accounts, authentication, permissions, password policies and access controls using LDAP.

* Monitor NetBackup jobs, investigate backup failures and perform recovery testing.

* Participate in technical engagements with vendors including Red Hat and Nutanix.

* Evaluate new platform features, patches and technology improvements.

* Participate in standby/on-call support for critical P1/P2 incidents.

Experience or exposure to Oracle would be advantageous.
