Litigation Associate (3-5 Years) – Strong File Autonomy + Mentorship

Location: Lethbridge, Alberta

Employment Type: Full-Time

About Us:

As a well-established firm serving southern Alberta, North & Company LLP offers a broad range of legal services with a strong and growing litigation practice. Our litigation team handles a diverse range of matters including General Law, Contractual Disputes, Estates, Judgement Enforcement, Insurance Claims, Liability, Negligence, Employment, and Personal Injury.

We pride ourselves on a collaborative environment where lawyers have meaningful file ownership while still benefiting from mentorship and team support. Our size allows for both autonomy and access to experienced counsel when needed.

Position Overview:

This role offers immediate file carriage with support from senior Lawyers. The successful candidate will manage a varied litigation practice, with regular exposure to chambers applications, questionings, and court appearances.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Prepare for and participate in mediations and pre-trial conferences
  • Represent clients in chambers applications and court proceedings
  • Provide strategic legal advice to clients and maintain strong client relationships.
  • Manage deadlines and ensure compliance with procedural rules.
  • Collaborate with colleagues to deliver high-quality legal services.

Qualifications:

  • Juris Doctor (JD) or Bachelor of Laws (LL.B.) degree and membership in good standing with the Law Society of Alberta.
  • 2+ years with strong litigation exposure.
  • Strong research, drafting, and advocacy skills.
  • Excellent organizational and time-management abilities.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

What We Offer:

  • Competitive salary with performance-based bonus structure
  • Strong support staff to assist with file management
  • Opportunities for mentorship and career progression
  • Reasonable billable expectations that support work-life balance
  • Collaborative team environment with direct access to senior lawyers

Why Lethbridge?

Enjoy a lower cost of living, shorter commutes, and close proximity to the Rocky Mountains. This role offers the opportunity to build a strong litigation practice without the pressures of a major urban centre.

How to Apply:

This role offers the best of both worlds, the resources and stability of an established firm, with the flexibility and autonomy typically found in a smaller practice.

We are actively interviewing candidates and encourage early applications. Please submit your resume, cover letter, and references to [email protected]. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis until the position is filled.
