What they need
Want to run your own cases, not just write memos about them?
Berliner Cohen is looking for a litigator with 3+ years of experience who wants to take cases from the first call to the final result. You'll defend employers in wage and hour cases, class actions, discrimination and wrongful termination claims, and other statutory matters. You'll also be the trusted advisor clients call before a problem turns into a lawsuit. You will also work with clients on their general litigation matters and operational concerns.
This role is a good fit if you'd rather argue the motion than draft it for someone else, and you want a practice you can grow.
What you'll do
- Own your matters. Handle employment and statutory cases from start to finish, including strategy, discovery, motions and resolution.
- Get on your feet. Appear in state and federal courts, administrative proceedings and other forums.
- Take on complex cases. Litigate wage and hour claims, class actions, discrimination, wrongful termination and related statutory claims.
- Stop disputes early. Manage pre-litigation disputes and administrative charges before they grow.
- Be the advisor. Counsel clients on California employment law, FMLA, ADA, leave obligations, wage and hour compliance and workplace policies.
- Shape how clients operate. Draft employment policies and lead compliance trainings.
- Write work that wins. Prepare pleadings, motions, briefs, discovery and settlement documents.
- Work as a team. Work directly with clients and with attorneys across the firm's practice groups.
What you bring
- 3+ years of litigation experience, with an emphasis in employment law and/or administrative proceedings and a desire to be a zealous advocate
- Hands-on experience with litigation
- Familiarity with California employment laws
- The confidence and judgment to manage matters on your own
- Sharp research, writing, analytical, negotiation and communication skills
- A strong academic and professional track record
- A knack for building lasting client relationships
- Active membership in good standing with the State Bar of California
- Willingness to travel to client sites, across counties and between firm offices
Why Berliner Cohen
- Real responsibility early, with no waiting years for your first deposition or hearing
- A respected Bay Area firm with deep roots in the community and a broad client base
- A collaborative culture where senior attorneys invest in your development
- A clear path to grow your own practice
Compensation
Attorneys with at least three years of experience can reasonably expect to start at $190,000. Actual pay depends on several factors, including, without limitation, qualifications and experience.
