Job Overview
At Ascend Mental Health and Wellness, we believe that meaningful mental health care begins with genuine human connection. We're building a practice where clients feel heard, understood, and supported, and where clinicians have the opportunity to develop their skills, grow professionally, and make a lasting difference in people's lives.
We are seeking a compassionate, motivated, and dedicated Licensed Master Social Worker (LMSW) to join our growing outpatient mental health practice in Hampton Bays, New York.
Ascend provides comprehensive mental health services to adults ages 18 and older, including individual psychotherapy, couples and family therapy, psychiatric evaluations, and medication management. Our approach emphasizes individualized, evidence-based treatment and collaboration between psychotherapy and psychiatric providers.
As a member of our clinical team, you'll work under appropriate clinical supervision while developing meaningful therapeutic relationships, strengthening your clinical skills, and gaining valuable experience in an outpatient setting.
We value the dedication our clinicians bring to their work and offer a progressive compensation structure that provides greater earning opportunities as your caseload grows.
We're looking for someone who understands that effective therapy isn't about applying the same approach to every client. It's about understanding the individual sitting across from you, recognizing their unique experiences, and helping them make meaningful, lasting changes in their lives.
Responsibilities
- Provide individual psychotherapy to adult clients experiencing a variety of mental health concerns, including anxiety, depression, mood disorders, trauma, relationship difficulties, and life transitions, under appropriate clinical supervision.
- Conduct comprehensive biopsychosocial assessments and participate in diagnostic evaluations and individualized treatment planning under clinical supervision.
- Utilize evidence-based therapeutic approaches tailored to each client's needs, strengths, and treatment goals.
- Establish and maintain strong therapeutic relationships built on trust, empathy, professionalism, and appropriate clinical boundaries.
- Monitor client progress, evaluate treatment effectiveness, and collaborate with the supervising clinician to modify treatment interventions when indicated.
- Maintain accurate, timely clinical documentation, including intake assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, and other required records.
- Identify and assess potential safety concerns, including suicidal ideation, self-harm, and other clinical risks, and collaborate with the supervising clinician to ensure appropriate interventions.
- Work collaboratively with psychiatric providers and other members of the treatment team to support comprehensive, coordinated patient care.
- Provide services through in-person appointments and secure telehealth platforms.
- Participate in clinical supervision, case consultation, and ongoing professional development.
- Maintain compliance with HIPAA, professional ethical standards, and applicable New York State regulations.
- Contribute to a welcoming, respectful, and collaborative environment for clients and colleagues.
Skills
- Current, unrestricted New York State LMSW license required.
- Master's degree in Social Work (MSW) from an accredited social work program.
- Strong understanding of clinical assessment, treatment planning, and fundamental psychotherapy principles.
- Familiarity with evidence-based therapeutic approaches, including Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT), motivational interviewing, trauma-informed care, and other clinically appropriate interventions.
- Ability to establish rapport and develop meaningful therapeutic relationships with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
- Strong interpersonal, communication, and active-listening skills.
- Sound professional judgment, ethical decision-making abilities, and a willingness to seek consultation when clinically appropriate.
- Ability to work collaboratively with clinical supervisors, psychiatric providers, and other mental health professionals.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail, including the ability to maintain timely and accurate electronic clinical documentation.
- Comfort with technology, electronic health record systems, and telehealth services.
- A commitment to continued professional growth, clinical learning, and development toward advanced clinical licensure.
- Dependability, professionalism, adaptability, and a genuine passion for helping others.
