What they need
Proudly New Zealand owned since 1996, First Mortgage Trust has built a strong reputation as an investment manager specialising in property lending. With more than NZD $2 billion in funds under management, three licensed investment funds and a clear growth strategy, we offer the chance to join a trusted business with real momentum.
Our culture is collaborative, accountable and focused on continuous improvement. If you enjoy building trusted relationships and want to grow your career in property lending, this is a strong next step.
The Opportunity
We are looking for an experienced Property Finance Loans Analyst to join our Christchurch Lending team. Working within a Lending POD, you will play a key role in progressing and assessing a diverse range of property lending opportunities across development, construction and investment lending.
This is more than a traditional analysis role. You will partner closely with Business Development Managers, Credit Risk and the wider Lending team to help structure quality lending opportunities, apply sound commercial and risk judgement, and contribute to great customer outcomes.
As FMT continues to evolve its lending capability, you will have the opportunity to deepen your technical expertise, influence lending decisions, contribute to process improvement initiatives, and leverage new technologies and ways of working to enhance efficiency and customer experience.
You'll be part of a collaborative and experienced team where no two days are the same, gaining exposure to a broad range of transactions while building your capability and career within one of New Zealand's leading property finance businesses.
What you’ll be doing
- Applying sound commercial and risk judgement to assess lending opportunities and provide well-reasoned recommendations.
- Working collaboratively with clients, advisers, solicitors, valuers and quantity surveyors to gather information.
- Supporting high-quality customer outcomes through the effective management of lending applications.
- Contributing to continuous improvement initiatives, helping identify practical ways to enhance processes, systems and the customer experience.
- Leveraging technology and AI-enabled tools to improve efficiency, consistency and quality across lending activities.
- Maintaining a strong focus on prudent lending, operational risk management and compliance requirements.
- Contributing to the management of maturing loans, pipeline activities and lending workflow priorities to ensure excellent service delivery.
What You’ll Bring
You will be naturally curious and bring:
- Proven experience in New Zealand property, construction and development lending.
- Strong analytical capability, combining sound judgement with the ability to identify risks, assess opportunities and make well-reasoned recommendations.
- A focus on delivering trusted customer outcomes through thoughtful and commercially balanced lending decisions.
- A collaborative approach that enables you to build strong relationships and contribute positively to team success.
- A willingness to embrace change, adapt quickly and support continuous improvement.
- Curiosity to explore new ideas, technologies and ways of working that improve customer and business outcomes.
- A track record of taking ownership, delivering results and following through on commitments.
- Relevant tertiary qualifications and/or experience within financial services, banking, property or lending.
Team Benefits
We offer a supportive team environment and a range of benefits, including:
- Flexible working
- Birthday Leave
- Volunteer Day
- Wellbeing Day
- Health Insurance
- Parental leave benefits
- Proud community sponsors of Save the Kiwi, FMT Annual Youth Sponsorship Grant & Coastguard
If you’re ready to grow your career in property lending, we’d love to hear from you.
