Local CDL Driver / Safety Assistant

We are seeking a reliable, safety-focused Local CDL Driver / Safety Assistant to join our team . In this dual-purpose role, you will split your time between safely operating local commercial routes (home daily) and supporting our safety and compliance department with daily fleet procedures, equipment checks, and driver safety standards.

Key Responsibilities

Driving Duties (Approx. 60-70%):

• Operate a commercial vehicle safely on local container, drayage, or regional routes.
• Perform thorough pre-trip, inter-trip, and post-trip inspections.
• Comply with all Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA) and Department of Transportation (DOT) regulations.
• Maintain accurate electronic logs (ELD) and ensure timely delivery and pick-up of freight.
• Promptly report any equipment defects, delays, or safety incidents to dispatch and management.

Safety & Administrative Assistant Duties (Approx. 30-40%):

• Assist the Safety Manager with monitoring compliance, tracking driver documentation, and reviewing daily safety logs or dashcam events.
• Help maintain safety sign-in sheets, incident tracking reports, and equipment maintenance records.
• Assist with onboarding orientation and ensuring new drivers understand safety protocols and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
• Help coordinate routine equipment checks and yard safety guidelines.

Qualifications & Requirements

• Valid Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL-A).
• Minimum of [1-2] years of verifiable tractor-trailer driving experience.
• Clean driving record (no major preventable accidents, DUIs, or serious traffic violations).
• Strong working knowledge of DOT regulations, hours of service, and electronic logging devices (ELDs).
• Excellent communication and organizational skills, with a proactive attitude toward workplace safety.
• Ability to pass a background check and drug screening.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $18.00 - $19.00 per hour
