Local Nerd, In-Home and Remote Tech Support in Broken Arrow (contract)

OkieNerd is friendly tech help for folks who don't speak computer, and we are expanding across Oklahoma. We are looking for a dependable, good-hearted person to join the OkieNerd team in Broken Arrow. Set your own availability, keep the majority of every booking, and help your neighbors with the tech that drives them nuts.

// THE STORY SO FAR

OkieNerd went statewide in August. Thirteen Oklahoma markets are open for in-home visits today, with Local Nerds on the road from Lawton to Tulsa to Guymon, and remote help covers the whole state. Nerd on Call, our membership for folks who want a Nerd on standby, is live, and so are our iPhone and Android apps. Broken Arrow is open for bookings today, and we need more Nerds here.

// WHAT THE WORK LOOKS LIKE IN TULSA AND BROKEN ARROW

Tulsa's housing stock runs from 1920s bungalows in midtown to brand-new builds in south Bixby, and the tech problems follow the architecture exactly. Plaster and lath in the older neighborhoods will stop a Wi-Fi signal cold, which is why so many midtown houses have fast internet at the router and nothing usable in the back bedroom. Newer construction out toward Jenks and Broken Arrow has the opposite problem: plenty of signal, and a dozen devices nobody has ever organized.

As the Nerd for Tulsa and Broken Arrow, you would cover your own city and everything within 75 miles of it, in three travel bands. That reaches Broken Arrow, Jenks, Bixby, Sand Springs, Sapulpa, Owasso, Claremore and Muskogee.

// WHAT A LOCAL NERD ACTUALLY DOES

No server rooms, no enterprise jargon. You are helping regular folks with the stuff they use every day, patiently and in plain English.

Remote help: Hop on a quick call and walk someone through their phone, laptop, email, Wi-Fi or smart-TV trouble. Available across the whole state today.

In-home visits: Show up, sit down next to someone, and fix it in person. This is where the trust gets built.

Travel calls: Cover the nearby towns that don't have their own Nerd yet, and grow your own territory.

Every booking is paid up front through the app, so there is never an awkward money conversation at the door. You just do great work.

// WHAT IT PAYS

You keep 60% of the labor billed on every completed job, and 100% of every tip, with no commission taken on tips. Paid on every completed booking.

Remote session, 30 minutes: $23.40 to you ($46.80/hr equivalent)

In-person visit, within 25 miles: $66.00 per hour to you

In-person visit, 25 to 50 miles: $78.00 per hour to you

In-person visit, 50 to 75 miles: $87.00 per hour to you

Longer drives pay more because you keep your share of the whole band rate. Which drives you take is set by your own travel preferences, so you are never assigned a two-hour round trip you did not opt into.

// HOW IT WORKS

1. You set your own availability. Open up the times that suit you in your own calendar. A few evenings a week or full-time, that part is your call.

2. Bookings come to you automatically. When you're marked available, customers book your open time directly, with sensible buffer times built in around each visit. You're not chasing work or cherry-picking jobs.

3. Paid per completed booking. No clock to punch, no salary, no minimums.

4. You're independent. Your own tools, any reliable and presentable vehicle, and free to work elsewhere whenever you like.

5. We bring the customers. OkieNerd handles the brand, the booking and the payments, so you focus on the fix instead of finding work.

// YOU'RE ON A TEAM

You run your own schedule, but you are never on an island. You'll work inside our Google Workspace with your own OkieNerd email and calendar, we get the team together every week over Google Meet to share wins and swap fixes, and now and then we meet up in person, because the best teams actually know each other.

// WHY WE ARE HIRING HERE

Broken Arrow is open for in-home visits now. We are adding Nerds because a couple of people cannot cover an area this size: evenings, weekends and same-week visits go unfilled when nobody has open time. Bookings go to the Nerds whose calendars are open, so the people who show up and deliver get first crack at the volume.

Being straight with you: this is contract work that grows with the market, not a salary. You start with the hours you open up, in person around Broken Arrow and remote across the whole state, and build from there.

// HOW TO JOIN

Start to finish usually takes about one to two weeks, depending on scheduling and how fast your background check clears.

1. Apply online. About five minutes. No resume needed.

2. We read it. A real person, not a filter.

3. Interview. A video chat to meet you and walk through the role together.

4. Background check, and we pay for it. Only after we have talked. Our customers invite us into their homes, so everyone is screened. You enter your details directly with our screening provider, never with us.

5. In-person meet-up. We come to your area to meet face to face.

6. Onboarding, and you're live. Your OkieNerd account, Nerd HQ and your calendar, plus a short orientation, and you're ready for your first booking.

• You live in or near Broken Arrow and you plan to stay.

• You are patient with people who are frustrated and embarrassed about tech.

• You can explain things in plain English without making anybody feel silly.

• You are comfortable with the everyday stuff: computers, phones, Wi-Fi and networks, smart home, TVs and printers.

• Reliable, presentable transportation.

• You are okay with a standard background check.

We choose for character first. If you are the person your family and neighbors already call when something stops working, you are who we are looking for.
