STAGING INVENTORY & LOGISTICS MANAGER

Part-Time | 10–25 Hours Initially, Up to 40 Hours During Busy Periods | $25/Hour | Washington, DC / Northern Virginia

We are a growing luxury home staging company serving the Washington, DC metropolitan area and are seeking a highly organized, hands-on Inventory & Logistics Manager to take ownership of our inventory accountability, warehouse organization, staging preparation, palletization, and movement of furnishings between properties.

This is an operations and logistics position—not simply a furniture-moving position.

We are looking for someone who naturally thinks in terms of accountability, sequencing, readiness, systems, and execution.

Candidates with backgrounds in military logistics, supply, transportation, warehouse operations, retail distribution, furniture logistics, or supply-chain management are strongly encouraged to apply.

We currently use SORTLY as our primary inventory-management platform, supported by QR-code tracking, spreadsheets, photographs, and move documentation.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain accountability for approximately 1,000+ pieces of staging inventory, including furniture, artwork, lamps, rugs, accessories, linens, kitchen items, décor, and moving equipment.
  • Serve as the primary manager of our SORTLY inventory system.
  • Ensure inventory records accurately identify:
  • What we own
  • Where every major item is located
  • What is currently deployed
  • What is available
  • What is reserved for upcoming staging projects
  • What is damaged, missing, or awaiting repair
  • Maintain and improve our QR-code inventory tracking system.
  • Organize warehouse and storage areas so inventory can be quickly identified, retrieved, deployed, and returned.
  • Establish and enforce standardized procedures for:
  • Receiving
  • Labeling
  • Photographing
  • QR coding
  • Storing
  • Palletizing
  • Loading
  • Deployment
  • Transfer
  • Destaging
  • Return-to-inventory
  • Prepare staging packages and pallets before move day.
  • Confirm that staging packages are complete before trucks or crews depart.
  • Develop and maintain move manifests, checklists, staging schedules, pallet lists, and property inventory records.
  • Coordinate staging and destaging moves between warehouses, storage facilities, active listings, and incoming projects.
  • Coordinate loading and unloading of furniture, accessories, artwork, and staging equipment.
  • Direct movers and small staging crews when required.
  • Verify inventory before and after installations and removals.
  • Investigate and resolve missing-item or inventory discrepancies.
  • Track damaged items and coordinate repair, replacement, or retirement from inventory.
  • Maintain adequate supplies of moving blankets, straps, bins, labels, packing materials, carts, tools, and related equipment.
  • Help develop standardized STAGEPAC / pallet systems for frequently used room packages.
  • Identify opportunities to reduce unnecessary handling, repeat trips, damage, and lost inventory.
  • Coordinate multiple moves occurring within short time windows.
  • Communicate clearly with ownership, staging staff, movers, vendors, and property teams.
  • Recommend improvements to inventory control, warehouse layout, transportation, labor utilization, and overall staging logistics.

TECHNOLOGY & SYSTEMS

The successful candidate must be comfortable using technology as an operational tool.

Working knowledge or experience with the following is preferred:

  • SORTLY
  • QR-code inventory systems
  • Microsoft Excel
  • Google Sheets or similar spreadsheet systems
  • Microsoft PowerPoint
  • Digital inventory photography
  • Inventory-management applications
  • Mobile field applications
  • Shared digital checklists and operating documents
  • ChatGPT and other AI productivity tools

Advanced technical expertise is not required. However, the successful candidate should be comfortable learning software and using technology to improve organization, planning, reporting, documentation, and operational efficiency.

IDEAL EXPERIENCE

Relevant backgrounds may include:

  • U.S. military logistics
  • Supply or property accountability
  • Quartermaster operations
  • Transportation or movement control
  • Unit logistics or equipment readiness
  • Warehouse operations
  • Distribution centers
  • Retail logistics
  • Furniture logistics
  • Moving companies
  • Event-production logistics
  • Hospitality operations
  • Supply-chain management

Experience with organizations such as Amazon, Costco, IKEA, Home Depot, Lowe's, Target, Walmart, Wayfair, major furniture retailers, moving companies, or similar logistics-intensive operations would be directly applicable.

Military experience involving property accountability, supply rooms, logistics planning, equipment readiness, transportation, or unit movement is particularly relevant.

Military veterans are strongly encouraged to apply.

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Exceptionally organized and detail-oriented
  • Strong sense of personal accountability
  • Able to take ownership of a system rather than simply complete assigned tasks
  • Strong planning, scheduling, and prioritization ability
  • Comfortable developing and enforcing repeatable procedures
  • Comfortable directing movers and small crews
  • Able to anticipate requirements before move day
  • Strong problem-solving skills
  • Able to work independently with limited supervision
  • Comfortable working in a fast-moving small-business environment
  • Working knowledge of Excel and spreadsheets
  • Comfortable with QR codes and digital inventory systems
  • Ability to learn and maintain SORTLY
  • Familiarity with PowerPoint appreciated
  • Familiarity with ChatGPT or similar AI productivity tools appreciated
  • Clear written and verbal communication skills
  • Valid driver's license strongly preferred
  • Ability to lift and maneuver boxes, accessories, and smaller furniture items
  • Experience with warehouse carts, pallet jacks, moving equipment, trucks, or loading operations is a plus

HOURS & COMPENSATION

  • $25 per hour
  • Approximately 10–25 hours per week initially
  • Ability to increase to up to 40 hours per week during busy periods
  • Hours will vary based on staging installations, destaging operations, inventory projects, and business volume
  • Some weeks may focus primarily on warehouse and inventory organization
  • Busier periods may involve multiple installations, removals, and property transitions
  • Opportunity for increased hours and responsibility as the company grows

WHAT SUCCESS LOOKS LIKE

Within the first several months, we expect the successful candidate to help establish an operation where:

  • Every major inventory item is properly entered into SORTLY.
  • Each major item has a defined storage or deployment location.
  • QR codes are consistently used.
  • Inventory can be located without physically searching the warehouse.
  • Upcoming moves are planned several days in advance.
  • Staging packages are assembled before move day.
  • Pallets and room packages are organized and clearly identified.
  • Trucks are loaded according to a plan.
  • Movers receive clear instructions and manifests.
  • Property inventory is documented before and after each move.
  • Missing or damaged inventory is identified promptly.
  • Destaged inventory is inspected, scanned, reorganized, and quickly returned to service.
  • Frequently used inventory is stored for rapid access.
  • Management can determine the status and location of inventory through SORTLY and associated records.
  • The operation becomes increasingly standardized, efficient, and scalable.

THE PERSON WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for someone who sees a staging move as a logistics operation, not simply a moving assignment.

The right person should be able to walk into a warehouse or storage facility, assess the situation, establish priorities, create order, organize people and equipment, prepare inventory in advance, and execute efficiently.

We value someone who believes:

  • A move should be planned before move day.
  • Inventory should be accountable at all times.
  • Every item should have a known location.
  • Pallets and staging packages should be prepared in advance.
  • Movers should receive clear instructions.
  • Returned inventory should immediately re-enter an organized system.
  • Problems should be anticipated rather than discovered at the last minute.

For the right candidate, this position has the potential to grow into a larger Staging Operations / Logistics Manager role as the company expands.
