Title: Long Term Substitute Teacher Assistant

General Position Description: Assist in the preparation, implementation and monitoring of the classroom students’ curriculum goals and instructional programs while representing KHA in a positive and professional manner.

Essential Functions:

Instructional Opportunities:

-Use appropriate strategies and techniques developed by teachers and other professional staff to support individual student needs

-Assist the teacher in planning, modification, and implementation of curriculum, instruction and assessment

-Follow discipline guidelines in accordance with school policy and legal requirements

-Implement positive behavioral supports

-Maintain and monitor compliance with classroom rules, procedures and behavior standards

-Motivate and assist students in acquiring interpersonal skills, increased self-esteem and independence

Exhibit knowledge of health, safety and emergency procedures:

-Demonstrate knowledge of universal health care precautions

-Participate in sustaining a clean, healthy and safe learning environment

-Recognize indicators of abuse (substance, physical, sexual and emotional) and demonstrate knowledge of RI reporting laws.

Additional Duties Job Descriptions:

-Provide coverage for staff within the program at various sites during periods of short staffing, inclement weather, emergency conditions, etc.

-Provide coverage/support across the school as needed including the classroom, recess, lunch and the cafeteria.

Education, Experience and Special Skills:

Associated Degree or successful completion of a Teacher Assistant Training Program approved by the RI Department of Education.

Exceptions: (1) certification as a Teacher Assistant in another state, (2) hold an associate's degree or bachelor's degree and have completed coursework or other training consistent with our State standards.

Pay: $135.00 per day
