Loss Mitigation Specialist

We’re looking for a motivated, detail-orientated, and dependable Loss Mitigation Specialist (Collector) to join our team! This position plays an important role in helping manage delinquent loan accounts, minimizing potential losses, and helping members navigate financial challenges.

The ideal candidate will have strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills, along with the ability to handle sensitive financial situations with professionalism and sound judgement. This is a great opportunity to work alongside an experienced Loss Mitigation Manager, receive hands on training, and develop the skills needed to take on greater responsibility over time.

What You’ll Do:

• Monitor delinquent loan accounts and collection reports to identify accounts requiring follow up.
• Communicate with members to resolve past-due accounts, establish repayment arrangements, and explore solutions to financial difficulties.
• Assist with repossessions, foreclosures, bankruptcies, and other collection-related activities.
• Coordinate with legal counsel and outside agencies regarding collection and recovery efforts.
• Maintain accurate records of collection activities, member communications, and account resolution.
• Assist in evaluating delinquent accounts, preparing charge-off recommendations, and compiling monthly collection reports.
• Work closely with lending staff and management to minimize loan losses and maintain a healthy loan portfolio.
• Ensure collection activities comply with applicable laws, regulations, and credit union policies.
• Provide professional, respectful member service while balancing the needs of the member and the credit union.

What We’re Looking For:

• High school diploma required; previous experience in collections, lending or financial services preferred.
• Strong communication, negotiation, and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to handle difficult conversations with professionalism, patience, and empathy.
• Strong attention to detail with the ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines.
• Ability to maintain confidential information with discretion and exercise sound judgment.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and the ability to learn and work effectively with credit union systems.
• Positive attitude, professional demeanor, and commitment to CCU’s mission and values.
