Low Loader Driver

Job Overview

We are seeking a motivated and experienced Low Loader Driver to join our dynamic transportation team. In this vital role, you will transport heavy plant machinery and equipment between construction sites, and other locations, including wide and abnormal loads, ensuring all machinery is securely loaded, transported and unloaded in accordance with road traffic legislation and health and safety regulations. Your expertise in commercial driving, combined with your knowledge of flatbed and heavy haul operations, will ensure timely deliveries while maintaining the highest safety standards. Duties

• Transport heavy plant machinery, including excavators, dumpers, rollers, telehandlers and other construction equipment.
• Safely load and unload machinery onto low loader trailers.
• Be trained, qualified and competent in securing heavy plant machinery using appropriate straps, chains, tensioners and other approved load restraints.
• Ensure all machinery is correctly secured before transportation.
• Transport wide and abnormal loads in accordance with relevant regulations.
• Coordinate with escort vehicles and occasional police escorts when required.
• Carry out daily vehicle safety checks and report defects.
• Ensure loads comply with applicable weight, height and width restrictions.
• Deliver and collect machinery from construction sites and Yard.
• Complete delivery notes, collection paperwork and vehicle inspection records.
• Communicate with site managers, plant department and transport coordinators.
• Ensure machinery is transported without damage.
• Follow road traffic regulations and site health and safety procedures.
• Maintain the cleanliness and general condition of the vehicle and trailer.
• Report damage, breakdowns or mechanical issues immediately.
• Be willing to assist with general yard duties, including moving, organising and preparing plant machinery.
• Support the plant department with other reasonable duties as required.

Qualifications

• Valid HGV Class 1 (Category C+E) driving licence.
• Valid Driver CPC qualification.
• Digital tachograph card.
• Experience operating low loader trailers.
• Experience transporting wide and abnormal loads.
• Relevant load-securing training or certification, with demonstrated competence in safely strapping and chaining down heavy plant machinery. CPCS Category A50 or equivalent
• Knowledge of loading and unloading heavy plant machinery.
• Understanding of abnormal load regulations and escort procedures.
• Good knowledge of construction site safety procedures.
• Willingness to undertake yard duties when not driving.
• Ability to work independently and manage delivery schedules.

Pay: From £26.00 per hour

Expected hours: 50.0 per week
