What they need

Position Summary

CONDUIT by GBE Technology, LLC seeks an NCCER-certified Low Voltage Instructor to deliver its 12-week, 18-contact-hour Low Voltage Systems Installation and Maintenance course at Community College Preparatory Academy (CCPrep) in Washington, DC. The course runs as a low-voltage extension to CCPrep's HVAC training, teaching low voltage as the control side of the equipment students already know. The instructor reports to the Vice President of Workforce Development at GBE and coordinates with CCPrep Career Services.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver twelve 90-minute sessions (classroom, lab, and a Week 12 field practicum) following the course syllabus and NCCER module crosswalk.
  • Teach NEC® Article 725 Class 2 control circuits, 24VAC control power, conductors and cabling, raceway installation, grounding and bonding, network fundamentals, wireless sensors, and fire alarm interface.
  • Lead hands-on labs on the controls mock-up: tracing control circuits, terminating thermostats, relays, sensors, and DDC controllers, and verifying points end-to-end.
  • Enforce lab safety, including PPE, lockout/tagout, and CAT-rated test equipment use before any live measurement.
  • Administer quizzes, lab exercises, projects, and the final exam; record grades and attendance per CCPrep guidelines.
  • Guide students toward the extended CONDUIT pathway and NCCER credentials, and represent alignment limits accurately in all student-facing materials.

Required Qualifications

  • Current NCCER Instructor Certification (Instructor Certification Training Program, ICTP), in good standing and eligible to teach under an NCCER Accredited Training Sponsor.
  • NCCER craft credential in Electrical or Electronic Systems Technician (EST), with Registry transcript.
  • At least 5 years of field experience in low-voltage, controls, or electrical installation, including HVAC control wiring.
  • Working knowledge of the NEC®, especially Article 725, and NFPA 70E® electrical safety practice.
  • OSHA 10 or OSHA 30 Construction card.
  • Ability to explain technical content clearly to adult learners in a classroom and lab setting.

Preferred Qualifications

  • BICSI Installer or ETA Fiber Optic certification.
  • Experience with DDC controllers and building automation systems (BACnet, Modbus).
  • Prior teaching in a trade school, apprenticeship, or adult education program.
  • Familiarity with the ITSIMM 8th Edition text and NCCER Electrical 2023 Eleventh Edition modules.
