Job Summary
As a Low Voltage Lead / Project Manager, you will be responsible for leading and managing commercial low-voltage projects involving alarm systems, access control, surveillance cameras, structured cabling, fiber, and related technologies.
This is a hands-on leadership position. You will be expected to manage projects and technicians while also having the technical experience necessary to step into the field, troubleshoot problems, perform installations, and ensure work meets SERTG standards.
You will work closely with customers, SERTG leadership, technicians, vendors, and other departments to ensure projects are completed correctly, professionally, on schedule, and within the defined scope.
Customer service is a top priority. The successful candidate must be able to communicate professionally with customers, understand their needs, manage expectations, and represent SERTG well on every job site.
Primary Responsibilities
- Low Voltage Project Management: Manage assigned projects from initial handoff through completion, including scheduling, technician coordination, material requirements, installation, testing, documentation, customer communication, and project closeout.
- Field Leadership: Lead Low Voltage technicians and installers on commercial projects while providing clear direction, assigning work, monitoring progress, and maintaining quality standards.
- Alarm Systems: Install, configure, troubleshoot, service, and maintain commercial intrusion alarm systems, including panels, keypads, sensors, contacts, motion detectors, sirens, communication devices, and associated wiring.
- Access Control Systems: Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain access control systems, including controllers, card readers, request-to-exit devices, door contacts, electric strikes, magnetic locks, crash bars, power supplies, and related door hardware.
- Surveillance Camera Systems: Install, configure, troubleshoot, and maintain IP camera systems, NVRs, network-connected surveillance equipment, camera mounting systems, and associated cabling and infrastructure.
- Structured Cabling: Lead and perform installation of Cat5e, Cat6, Cat6A, coaxial, fiber optic, and other low-voltage cabling in commercial environments.
- Cable Testing & Certification: Ensure installed cabling is properly terminated, labeled, tested, certified when required, and documented according to SERTG standards and project specifications.
- Fiber Optics: Assist with or perform fiber installation, termination, testing, troubleshooting, and fiber splicing when required.
- Project Planning: Review project scopes, drawings, site information, equipment lists, and customer requirements before work begins to identify potential issues and ensure the project is properly prepared.
- Material Management: Verify that required equipment, cable, hardware, tools, lifts, and materials are available before and during projects. Communicate shortages or changes before they cause unnecessary project delays.
- Site Coordination: Coordinate with customers, general contractors, electricians, vendors, construction teams, and other trades when necessary to keep projects moving efficiently.
- Quality Control: Inspect completed work to ensure installations are clean, professional, functional, properly labeled, and compliant with SERTG standards.
- Troubleshooting: Diagnose complex issues involving alarms, access control, cameras, cabling, networking, power, door hardware, and related systems.
- Project Documentation: Maintain accurate documentation including cable schedules, device locations, labeling information, test results, equipment information, passwords where appropriate, system configuration, photos, and as-built documentation.
- Customer Communication: Provide customers with professional updates regarding project status, issues, scheduling, system operation, and project completion.
- Customer Training: Provide basic customer training and system walkthroughs following installation when required.
- Change Management: Identify requests or conditions that fall outside the original project scope and communicate those changes before additional work is performed.
- Safety & Job Site Standards: Maintain safe and organized work environments and ensure technicians follow appropriate ladder, lift, electrical, PPE, and job-site safety requirements.
- Team Development: Train, mentor, and provide technical guidance to junior Low Voltage technicians and installers.
- Coordination With Other SERTG Teams: Work with SERTG's Networking, Managed Services, Engineering, and Security teams when projects involve switches, VLANs, firewalls, servers, cloud services, or other IT infrastructure.
Key Qualities

- Leadership: Comfortable directing technicians, assigning work, maintaining accountability, and taking ownership of project results.
- Project Ownership: Able to look beyond the individual installation task and understand what is required to successfully complete the entire project.
- Advanced Troubleshooting: Capable of diagnosing problems involving wiring, devices, panels, controllers, networking, power supplies, and system configuration.
- Customer-Service First: Professional, respectful, and confident when communicating with customers, even when projects encounter challenges.
- Attention to Detail: Takes pride in clean installations, proper labeling, accurate documentation, and completing projects correctly the first time.
- Organized: Able to manage multiple projects, schedules, technicians, materials, customer expectations, and deadlines simultaneously.
- Self-Motivated: Able to identify what needs to be done and move projects forward without requiring constant supervision.
- Team Player: Willing to work alongside technicians when necessary and understands that leadership includes helping the team complete the job.
