What they need
Low Voltage Superintendent
Location: Richmond, VA
Temp to Full-Time | Field-Based Leadership Role
We’re hiring an experienced Low Voltage Superintendent to oversee field operations across multiple commercial telecommunications and low-voltage projects in the Richmond area.
This is a leadership role for someone with a strong low-voltage background who has progressed beyond leading a single crew or project and is comfortable managing multiple projects, teams, schedules, and priorities at the same time.
You’ll serve as a key connection between field technicians, Lead Technicians, project leadership, customers, and other trades—helping ensure projects are properly staffed, organized, safe, and delivered according to schedule and quality expectations.
What You’ll Do
As Superintendent, you’ll provide oversight and direction across multiple active projects. Responsibilities may include:
- Oversee field execution across multiple low-voltage projects simultaneously
- Coordinate and support Lead Technicians, technicians, installers, and other field personnel across assigned job sites
- Monitor project schedules, manpower requirements, materials, equipment, and overall field progress
- Help determine appropriate staffing and resource allocation based on project schedules and priorities
- Conduct regular job-site visits to evaluate progress, workmanship, safety, productivity, and potential risks
- Review project scopes, drawings, specifications, schedules, and installation requirements
- Ensure field teams understand project expectations, priorities, and deadlines
- Identify scheduling conflicts, labor shortages, material concerns, scope changes, and other issues that could impact project delivery
- Work with project leadership to proactively resolve field challenges before they affect schedule or customer commitments
- Ensure installations meet applicable quality standards, project specifications, and customer requirements
- Oversee or support quality-control inspections, testing, punch-list completion, and project closeout
- Reinforce company and job-site safety requirements and help maintain a strong safety culture across field teams
- Provide coaching, direction, and performance feedback to Lead Technicians and other field personnel
- Help develop technicians and identify employees who are ready for increased responsibility
- Coordinate with general contractors, customers, project managers, other trades, and internal teams as needed
- Maintain professional communication with customers regarding field progress, challenges, scheduling, and project needs
- Support change management by identifying work that falls outside the original project scope and escalating appropriately
- Help ensure field documentation, daily reporting, material tracking, and other project records are completed accurately and consistently
What We’re Looking For
This position requires someone who understands both the technical side of low-voltage installations and the operational side of managing field work at scale.
Qualified candidates should have:
- Significant hands-on experience in low-voltage, structured cabling, telecommunications, or a related field
- Previous field leadership experience as a Superintendent, Foreman, Lead Technician, Field Supervisor, or similar role
- Demonstrated experience overseeing multiple projects simultaneously
- Experience managing or providing direction to multiple field crews and Lead Technicians
- Strong knowledge of commercial structured cabling and low-voltage installation practices
- Experience with technologies such as CAT5/6, fiber optics, network infrastructure, CCTV, access control, wireless, AV, and/or related systems
- Ability to read and interpret drawings, specifications, scopes of work, schedules, and project documentation
- Understanding of commercial construction environments and coordination between trades
- Strong knowledge of job-site safety practices and applicable industry standards
- Experience planning manpower, materials, equipment, and field resources
- Ability to recognize potential schedule, scope, quality, and resource issues before they become larger project problems
- Strong leadership and decision-making skills
- Excellent communication and organizational abilities
- Ability to manage changing priorities across several active projects without losing visibility into the details
- Professional, customer-focused approach when interacting with clients, contractors, and internal teams
Education & Certifications
- High school diploma, GED, or equivalent experience required
- OSHA training and applicable safety certifications strongly preferred
- BICSI or other telecommunications/low-voltage industry certifications are a plus
- Valid driver’s license and ability to travel between assigned job sites
Additional certifications may be preferred depending on project and customer requirements.
What Success Looks Like
A successful Superintendent knows what’s happening across their projects without needing to personally perform every task.
You’ll be expected to keep a strong pulse on people, progress, schedule, materials, safety, quality, and customer expectations—while empowering Lead Technicians and field teams to execute effectively.
You should be comfortable moving between job sites, addressing an urgent field issue on one project, reviewing manpower needs for another, communicating with project leadership, and planning ahead for what your teams will need next.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This role offers the opportunity to take on broader responsibility within a growing low-voltage and telecommunications operation.
Rather than overseeing just one crew or installation, you’ll have visibility across multiple projects and play an important role in how field operations are planned and executed.
It’s a strong opportunity for an experienced field leader who enjoys developing teams, solving operational challenges, working with customers, and taking ownership of successful project delivery.
Work Environment
This is a field-focused leadership position that requires regular travel between active commercial job sites.
Candidates should be comfortable working in construction environments, walking job sites, climbing ladders or accessing elevated areas when necessary, and working around active installation crews and other trades.
The role may occasionally require lifting equipment or materials and working outside standard hours depending on project schedules, deadlines, or customer requirements.
Reasonable accommodations may be available for qualified individuals with disabilities.
Ready to Take the Lead?
If you have a strong low-voltage background, proven field leadership experience, and experience successfully managing multiple projects and crews at the same time, we’d like to hear from you.
