Low Voltage Technician

Job Summary

We are seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Low Voltage Technician to join our team in North Alabama. In this role, you will be responsible for installing, maintaining, and troubleshooting commercial low-voltage electrical systems across various telecommunications and networking environments.

Responsibilities:

• Install, configure, and troubleshoot low-voltage systems including CCTV, fiber optic cabling, access control, Ethernet networks, VoIP telephony, and structured cabling infrastructure.
• Read and interpret schematics, wiring diagrams, and technical manuals to accurately complete installations and repairs.
• Perform fiber splicing and fiber optic system installation to ensure optimal connectivity and performance.
• Conduct network wiring, cable termination (Cat5, Cat6), and equipment setup for telecommunication systems.
• Utilize diagnostic tools such as ohmmeters, telecommunications testing equipment, and RF testers to identify issues and verify system functionality.
• Troubleshoot equipment failures in electrical systems (AC/DC), network hardware (Cisco routers, Juniper devices), and computer hardware components.
• Collaborate with clients to provide exceptional customer service by explaining system functions and resolving technical issues efficiently.
• Maintain detailed documentation of work performed, including installation logs, test results, and maintenance records.
• Adhere to safety standards such as NEC (National Electrical Code) regulations while performing installations and repairs.
• Support ongoing maintenance projects in data centers or telecommunication environments to ensure system reliability.

Qualifications:

• Proven experience as a Low Voltage Technician or Service Technician in telecommunications or networking environments.
• Strong knowledge of low-voltage electrical wiring, cabling (Cat5/Cat6), network installation, and communication system setup.
• Hands-on experience with fiber splicing, fiber optic systems installation, and troubleshooting fiber networks.
• Familiarity with schematics, technical manuals, and telecommunication testing equipment such as ohmmeters and RF testers.
• Ability to interpret electrical diagrams and schematics accurately for complex installations.
• Skilled in the use of hand tools (wire strippers, crimpers) and power tools necessary for installation tasks.
• Knowledge of AC/DC electrical systems along with structured cabling standards compliant with NEC guidelines.
• Excellent customer service skills with the ability to communicate technical information clearly to clients.
• Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record; willingness to travel for field service assignments as needed.
