Low Voltage and Security Technician

Location: Central Texas (primarily Waco, Texas, and surrounding areas)

We’re Looking For

We’re looking for a dependable, safety-minded Low Voltage and Security Technician who enjoys hands-on work, solving technical problems, and contributing to a team. You will help install and support structured cabling, fiber optic, security, fire alarm, access control, CCTV, intercom, audio/video, and other low-voltage systems throughout Central Texas. We welcome candidates beginning a low-voltage career as well as experienced technicians ready for more independent assignments based on their skills, training, licensing, and project needs.

What You’ll Do

  • Install and support structured cabling, voice/data, fiber optic, security, fire alarm, access control, CCTV, intercom, paging, audio/video, intrusion, and related low-voltage systems and devices.
  • Identify cable pathways; install J-hooks, cable tray, conduit sleeves, conduit, and related firestopping materials.
  • Pull, route, form, dress, secure, label, terminate, trim out, and test copper, fiber optic, horizontal, backbone, ISP, OSP, multipair, workstation, and other low-voltage cabling.
  • Assist with or complete telecommunications-room and closet buildouts, including racks, cabinets, backboards, patch panels, head-end equipment, and related terminations.
  • Perform additions, moves, changes, retrofits, approved abandoned-cable removal, service, testing, troubleshooting, diagnosis, repair, and corrective work based on training, licensing, demonstrated competency, and assigned career level.
  • Read and follow blueprints, drawings, schematics, specifications, cut sheets, bid documents, and statements of work; complete required test results, cable records, service documentation, and status updates.
  • Perform work according to project scope, applicable codes, OSHA requirements, company safety procedures, customer expectations, and industry standards; report out-of-scope work before proceeding.
  • Load, unload, stage, organize, and account for project materials, tools, and equipment; maintain clean work areas and properly care for personal and company property.
  • Complete assigned work timely and communicate delays, material needs, access issues, and other conditions affecting job completion.
  • Maintain professional communication, conduct, attendance, teamwork, safety practices, and job knowledge. Qualified employees may provide technical assistance to less-experienced technicians or coordinate a defined portion of a small project.

Required Qualifications

  • Ability to follow directions, learn through hands-on instruction, and safely perform assigned field duties.
  • Ability to work with varying levels of supervision based on training, demonstrated competency, and assigned career level.
  • Ability to safely use ladders, lifts, hand tools, power tools, and testing equipment.
  • Must be able to pass background and substance screenings.
  • Must have no disqualifying criminal offenses under applicable customer, project, Senate Bill 9, or Texas Penal Code requirements.

Preferred Experience & Skills

  • Previous low-voltage or structured-cabling experience is preferred but not required for entry-level placement.
  • Applicable Texas licenses and manufacturer, lift, termination, or related certifications are preferred.
  • Familiarity with NEC Article 800, TIA/EIA standards, blueprints, schematics, specifications, cut sheets, and SOW documents is preferred.
  • OSP, OTDR, fusion-splicing, copper/fiber troubleshooting, testing-equipment, and trade-tool experience are preferred.
  • Current and valid Texas driver’s license with no driving offenses preventing commercial insurance acceptance is preferred.
  • Strong communication, problem-solving, initiative, reliability, adaptability, teamwork, and willingness to continue learning.

Work Environment & Physical Demands

  • Must be willing to work overtime and weekends as job needs require, including overnight travel as needed.
  • Must be able to safely lift and carry up to 50 pounds and push or pull materials, tools, and equipment.
  • Must be able to walk, climb, squat, stoop, bend, kneel, twist at the waist, and reach at, above, and below shoulder level.
  • Must be able to stand for extended periods, perform repetitive hand work, and grasp and manipulate wires, cable, tools, equipment, and small components.
  • Must be able to work at elevation from ladders, man lifts, and boom lifts, and in high-traffic, noisy, dark, tight, and/or small spaces for extended periods.
  • Must be able to work in outdoor weather extremes, including extreme cold, snow, rain, hail, and extreme heat.
  • A substantial portion of the work may occur inside commercial buildings under construction or renovation without air conditioning and with limited or little airflow. Work areas may remain extremely hot for extended periods, particularly during Central Texas summers.
  • Work may require sustained physical exertion in high heat, with limited access to climate-controlled areas depending on the job site and stage of construction. Employees must follow all applicable safety procedures, job-site requirements, and required break practices.
