Job Overview

Alterman is looking for experienced Low Voltage Technicians for commercial construction projects in the Austin area.

We are looking for individuals with hands-on experience in structured cabling, fiber optics, security systems, or access control. Candidates should understand commercial installation practices, be able to work safely and efficiently, and take pride in the quality of their work.

We have opportunities for experienced installers as well as technicians capable of working independently and leading small crews.

Responsibilities

• Install, route, terminate, label, and test Cat5e, Cat6, and Cat6A cabling.
• Install cable pathways, J-hooks, cable tray, ladder racks, racks, cabinets, and other supporting infrastructure.
• Perform MDF/IDF buildouts and equipment installations.
• Install fiber optic cabling, including single-mode and multimode fiber.
• Perform copper and fiber testing using Fluke or similar test equipment.
• Install security equipment, including IP cameras, card readers, door contacts, access control panels, and related devices.
• Read and follow construction drawings, blueprints, and installation specifications.
• Troubleshoot cabling and system installation issues.
• Coordinate with foremen, project managers, and other trades to complete assigned work.
• Maintain a safe, clean, and productive jobsite.

Qualifications

• 3+ years of commercial low-voltage installation experience preferred.
• Experience with structured cabling, security, access control, or fiber optic systems.
• Ability to perform copper cable installation and termination.
• Familiarity with commercial construction environments and jobsite safety requirements.
• Ability to read and understand basic construction drawings.
• Experience using hand tools, power tools, and low-voltage testing equipment.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a crew.
• Reliable transportation and ability to travel between Austin-area jobsites.

Additional Experience That Is a Plus

• Fiber fusion splicing and OTDR testing.
• Fluke copper and fiber certification testing.
• Access control and CCTV installation, programming, or troubleshooting.
• Experience with systems such as LenelS2, Genetec, Software House, Verkada, or Mercury controllers.
• Data center, hospital, industrial, or large commercial construction experience.
• BICSI, manufacturer certifications, or Texas security licensing.
• Previous experience leading crews, coordinating manpower, or managing installation activities.

Pay: $24.80 - $43.40 per hour
