What they need

Eastward House School, Cardiff
Full-time
Salary: £24,784.50 per annum

Eastward House School is looking for an enthusiastic, caring and adaptable Learning Support Assistant to join our team.

We are a small independent specialist school supporting children and young people with a range of Additional Learning Needs (ALN). We pride ourselves on knowing our pupils as individuals, building positive and nurturing relationships, and creating learning opportunities that are engaging, relevant and accessible.

About the role

This is a varied, whole-school role. You will work across different classes and cohorts, supporting pupils with a range of ages, abilities and additional learning needs.

Working alongside teachers and other members of the school team, you will help pupils to access learning, develop their independence and confidence, regulate their emotions and behaviour, and engage positively with school life.

Driving is an essential part of this position. The successful candidate will be required to drive school vehicles and assist with transporting pupils to and from their homes, as well as supporting transport for activities and learning opportunities during the school day. Applicants must therefore hold a full UK driving licence and be confident driving as part of their role.

Bring your own strengths

We are particularly interested in hearing from applicants who can bring an additional skill, specialism, qualification or passion to our school. We are keen to hear what you could bring to our school and our pupils.

We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience of working with children or young people, ideally within an educational or specialist setting
  • Has an understanding of Additional Learning Needs
  • Can build positive, professional and nurturing relationships with pupils
  • Is calm, patient and able to respond appropriately to behaviour that may challenge
  • Is flexible and happy to work with different pupils, classes and staff across the school
  • Understands the importance of safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
  • Is reliable, organised and able to work effectively as part of a small team
  • Holds GCSE English and Maths at Grade C/4 or above
  • Holds a full UK driving licence and is willing and able to transport pupils using school vehicles

Knowledge or experience of approaches including PACE, PDA, trauma-informed practice and positive behaviour support would be advantageous, although appropriate training and development opportunities will be provided.

Safeguarding

Eastward House School is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children and young people. The successful applicant will be subject to the appropriate safer recruitment checks, including an enhanced DBS check, references and other checks required under the Independent School Standards (Wales).

The successful candidate will also be required to register with the Education Workforce Council (EWC) where applicable.

Interested?

If you are looking for a role where no two days are quite the same, enjoy working closely with young people and have skills, interests or experience that you think could make a positive contribution to our school, we would love to hear from you.

Please tell us as part of your application about any particular skills, qualifications, interests or areas of specialism that you could bring to Eastward House School.
