Yard Operations & Dispatch Manager

Tri County Lumber Company | Clearwater, Minnesota

Full-Time | Competitive Salary + Performance-Based Bonus | Monday–Friday

Lead the Operation. Develop the Team. Deliver an Exceptional Customer Experience.

Tri County Lumber Company is seeking an experienced, hands-on Yard Operations & Dispatch Manager to lead our lumberyard operations, delivery logistics, and transportation team.

This is an opportunity for a proven operations leader to make a meaningful impact at one of Central Minnesota's established independent building materials suppliers.

We're looking for someone who takes pride in running an organized, efficient operation, developing great employees, and delivering an exceptional customer experience.

About Tri County Lumber

Celebrating 25 years in business (2001–2026), Tri County Lumber is a family-owned Building Materials & Home Design Center serving professional builders, contractors, remodelers, and homeowners throughout Minnesota and Wisconsin.

Our 9-acre Clearwater campus features approximately 80,000 square feet of interior storage, extensive building material inventories, a professional Design Center, and products from leading manufacturers including Marvin, TimberTech, Trex, James Hardie, LP Building Solutions, and many more.

We have built our reputation on quality products, knowledgeable employees, competitive pricing, and exceptional service.

Our promise is simple:

"Your Family's Satisfaction is Our Family's Guarantee."

As we continue to grow, we're investing in our people, facilities, technology, and operational capabilities to deliver a best-in-class experience for our customers.

The Opportunity

As our Yard Operations & Dispatch Manager, you will have direct responsibility for the daily performance of our lumberyard, material handling, order fulfillment, and delivery operations.

You will lead a team of approximately eight experienced drivers and load builders, coordinate deliveries throughout our regional service area, and work closely with Sales, Purchasing, and company leadership.

This is a hands-on leadership position, requiring someone who is equally comfortable managing employees, organizing the yard, improving processes, and utilizing technology to drive results.

Your mission is straightforward:

Every Order. On Time. Complete. Accurate. Damage-Free.

Key Responsibilities

Yard Operations & Inventory Management

  • Oversee daily yard operations, including receiving, storage, material handling, order staging, and loading.
  • Maintain a clean, safe, organized, and professionally managed lumberyard.
  • Ensure inventory is properly stored, protected from damage, accurately located, and readily accessible.
  • Establish accountability for inventory handling, stock rotation, material quality, and yard housekeeping.
  • Work closely with Purchasing and Sales to maintain inventory accuracy and minimize material loss.

Dispatch, Fleet & Delivery Management

  • Plan, coordinate, and optimize daily delivery schedules within an approximately 150-mile service radius.
  • Manage fleet utilization, delivery routing, truck loading, and driver assignments.
  • Ensure customer orders are properly picked, verified, secured, and delivered accurately.
  • Utilize dispatch technology, GPS tracking, delivery photographs, and electronic notifications to improve efficiency and customer communication.
  • Coordinate equipment pickups, returns, and transportation of rental equipment when applicable.
  • Oversee vehicle readiness, preventive maintenance coordination, and applicable DOT and transportation safety requirements.

Team Leadership & Accountability

  • Lead, coach, schedule, and develop our experienced team of drivers and load builders.
  • Establish clear daily priorities, performance expectations, and accountability.
  • Promote a culture of safety, teamwork, professionalism, and continuous improvement.
  • Work closely with Sales, Purchasing, and company leadership to resolve issues before they impact customers.
  • Identify opportunities to improve productivity, reduce operating costs, and enhance service levels.

What We're Looking For

Preferred Qualifications

  • Previous leadership experience in lumberyard operations, building materials distribution, transportation, or logistics.
  • Experience supervising drivers, warehouse personnel, yard employees, or material handling teams.
  • Strong understanding of dispatch scheduling, truck loading, routing, and inventory management.
  • Experience with building materials, including lumber, engineered wood products, decking, siding, windows, doors, and related products, is highly desirable.
  • Familiarity with ECI Spruce, Spruce Anywhere, or comparable ERP and dispatch systems is a plus.
  • Working knowledge of fleet management, transportation safety, and DOT requirements.
  • Strong organizational, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Ability to lead by example and maintain accountability in a fast-paced environment.

The Right Individual Will Be:

  • A leader who takes ownership rather than waits for direction.
  • Highly organized, detail-oriented, and results-driven.
  • Comfortable making decisions and solving problems.
  • Respected by employees because of their knowledge, fairness, and work ethic.
  • Committed to maintaining a clean, safe, efficient, and professional operation.
  • Passionate about customer service and continuous improvement.

Compensation & Benefits

Tri County Lumber offers a competitive compensation package designed to attract and retain an experienced operations professional.

  • Competitive Salary Based on Experience
  • Performance-Based Bonus Opportunity
  • 401(k) with Company Match
  • Health Insurance
  • Paid Time Off
  • Employee Discounts at Tri County Lumber and our affiliated hardware store
  • Professional Development Opportunities
  • Tuition Reimbursement
  • Stable, Family-Owned Company with 25 Years of Success
  • Opportunity to Make a Meaningful Impact on a Growing Business
