Senior Microsoft 365 Platform Engineer – Azure API Management

📍 Financial Services | 6-Month Contract | £580 per day

We are seeking an experienced Senior Microsoft 365 Platform Engineer to join a financial services business on an initial six-month contract.

This is an exciting opportunity for a hands-on engineer to design and build a global Microsoft 365 Connectivity Platform, creating a secure, Azure-based API gateway between enterprise applications and Microsoft 365 services.

The role will focus on developing a centralised API platform and self-service application onboarding portal, enabling engineering teams to consume Microsoft 365 APIs securely, consistently and at scale within a global enterprise environment supporting over 250,000 users.

Key Responsibilities

• Design and build an Azure-hosted API gateway and abstraction layer for Microsoft 365.
• Develop secure integrations with Microsoft Graph, Teams, SharePoint, OneDrive and Microsoft Entra ID.
• Implement authentication, authorisation, application permissions and API security controls.
• Build rate limiting, request quotas, throttling management and consumption controls.
• Design and develop a self-service application onboarding portal, including API access requests and approval workflows.
• Automate application onboarding across Pilot, UAT and Production environments.
• Implement monitoring, logging, telemetry and operational dashboards to provide visibility of API usage, performance and service health.
• Establish reusable API integration patterns, engineering standards and deployment automation.
• Work closely with application engineering, cloud architecture, cyber security and Microsoft 365 platform teams.
• Help establish the platform's operational support model, documentation and governance standards.

Essential Experience

We are looking for a senior engineer with strong hands-on experience in:

• Azure API Management and enterprise API gateway development.
• Microsoft Graph and Microsoft 365 API integrations.
• Microsoft Entra ID, OAuth 2.0 and application authentication.
• API security, permissions, rate limiting and throttling controls.
• Azure platform engineering, automation and CI/CD pipelines.
• API monitoring, logging and operational management.
• Developer portals, self-service onboarding platforms or enterprise web application development.

Experience delivering large-scale enterprise platforms, particularly within financial services or other regulated environments, would be highly advantageous.

Initial Six-Month Objectives

The successful candidate will be responsible for delivering an initial Azure API gateway and Microsoft Graph abstraction layer, developing the application onboarding portal, implementing centralised API consumption controls, establishing monitoring and operational dashboards, and onboarding the first wave of strategic applications.

This is a hands-on, delivery-focused opportunity for an engineer who can combine technical architecture with practical implementation and deliver a scalable, secure platform within a defined contract period.
