Job Overview

We are seeking a Machine Learning Specialist to support data-driven improvement initiatives within a marine engineering and ship engine maintenance services business. The role focuses on applying machine learning techniques to marine engine performance data, equipment condition monitoring, maintenance records, and operational trends. The successful candidate will work with engineering and technical teams to develop analytical models that support maintenance planning, equipment reliability, and operational efficiency.

Key Responsibilities

• Analyse marine engine performance data, equipment sensor readings, and maintenance records to identify patterns and operational trends.

• Develop and evaluate machine learning models for equipment condition monitoring, fault detection, and predictive maintenance.

• Collaborate with marine engineers and technical personnel to understand maintenance challenges and translate them into data analysis requirements.

• Clean, process, and validate datasets collected from marine engines, machinery, and related engineering systems.

• Develop data-driven methods to identify potential equipment abnormalities and support maintenance decision-making.

• Monitor model performance and refine algorithms to improve reliability and analytical accuracy.

• Prepare technical reports, data visualisations, and findings for engineering and management teams.

• Support the integration of analytical models with existing maintenance systems and operational data platforms.

• Maintain clear documentation of datasets, modelling methods, testing results, and project outcomes.

• Keep up to date with developments in machine learning, industrial analytics, and condition-monitoring technologies.

Requirements

• Degree in Computer Science, Data Science, Machine Learning, Engineering, Statistics, or a related discipline.

• Experience in machine learning, statistical modelling, data analysis, or predictive analytics.

• Proficiency in Python and familiarity with relevant data analysis and machine learning libraries.

• Understanding of data preprocessing, model evaluation, feature engineering, and statistical analysis.

• Knowledge of time-series analysis, anomaly detection, or predictive maintenance is an advantage.

• Experience working with industrial equipment data, sensor data, or engineering systems is beneficial.

• Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to communicate technical findings clearly.

• Able to collaborate with cross-functional teams and manage project tasks in an organised manner.
