Company Overview

West Coast Aerospace, Inc. has been a leading manufacturer of precision-engineered fasteners since 1978, serving both military and commercial sectors. Our commitment to quality and innovation ensures our products meet the highest standards and are used globally in critical applications across major OEM airframe producers and MRO markets.

About the Role

Keep our aerospace fastener lines running. As a Machine Maintenance Technician, you will maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild the equipment that produces precision fasteners for aerospace customers, including hot and cold headers, thread rollers, centerless grinders, drill and broach machines, pointers, lathes, and milling machines.

You will work across mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems, partner closely with machine operators, and help drive preventive maintenance and continuous improvement. Your goal is simple: maximum uptime, safe operation, and parts that meet aerospace quality standards.

Key Responsibilities

Equipment maintenance and repair

  • Troubleshoot, repair, and rebuild fastener production equipment, including headers, thread rollers, centerless grinders, drill and broach machines, lathes, mills, and pointers.
  • Diagnose and repair mechanical, electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems.
  • Perform minor fabrication and welding using cutting and welding equipment.
  • Maintain and repair facility systems, building structures, and powered industrial vehicles.

Preventive maintenance and uptime

  • Carry out and maintain the preventive maintenance (PM) program on the schedule set by the Maintenance Supervisor.
  • Inspect operating machinery, equipment, and support systems on a routine basis to catch problems before they cause breakdowns.
  • Minimize downtime through fast, effective repairs and clean equipment start-ups.
  • Track maintenance schedules, labor hours, and spare parts usage.

Production support and collaboration

  • Work with machine operators to identify early warning signs and determine whether issues are operational or mechanical.
  • Coach operators on correct machine setup and operation.
  • Communicate clearly and professionally, both verbally and in writing, with operators, peers, and management.

Quality, safety, and improvement

  • Use precision measuring instruments and read engineering drawings and blueprints, applying shop math as needed.
  • Apply working knowledge of aerospace materials, including aluminum, alloy steel, titanium, and stainless steel.
  • Support quality systems, including Statistical Process Control (SPC) and Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP).
  • Follow all safety procedures, including OSHA and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO), and keep work areas clean, safe, and organized.
  • Recommend and help build equipment improvements that boost performance, reliability, and on-time delivery.
  • Take part in continuous improvement and lean manufacturing initiatives.

Parts and supplies

  • Source, order, and purchase parts, tools, materials, and supplies.

Qualifications

Required

  • 3+years of experience maintaining industrial manufacturing equipment.
  • Hands-on skills in hydraulic and pneumatic systems.
  • Working knowledge of basic electrical fundamentals.
  • Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering drawings.
  • Proficiency with precision measuring tools (micrometers, calipers, indicators, gauges).
  • Welding and fabrication experience.
  • Knowledge of OSHA safety standards and Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) requirements.
  • Ability to read, write, and communicate in English sufficient to follow safety procedures, technical manuals, and work instructions.
  • Availability to work overtime and weekends as production needs require.

Preferred

  • Experience in the fastener, aerospace, or precision metalworking industry.
  • Experience with cold/hot headers, thread rollers, or centerless grinders.
  • Familiarity with SPC, GMP, and lean manufacturing practices.
  • Experience with a CMMS or computerized PM tracking system.
  • Valid California driver’s license (if the role requires operating company vehicles off-site).

Physical Demands and Work Environment

  • Frequently stand, walk, and use hands to operate tools and equipment.
  • Frequently lift, push, pull, and carry up to 50 lbs.
  • Regularly stoop, bend, kneel, crouch, climb, and crawl to reach equipment and building systems.
  • Close vision and depth perception required for precision measurement and inspection.
  • Work is performed in a manufacturing plant with moderate to loud noise levels, moving machinery, and exposure to oils, coolants, and metal particles. Required PPE is provided.

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions of this position.
