What they need

Job Summary

Join our dynamic manufacturing team as a Machine Operator & Packaging Technician Apprentice (Bartelt Trainee), where you will embark on an exciting journey to develop essential skills in food production and packaging. This is a unique career track designed for someone who wants to grow from an entry-level operator into a highly skilled, specialized technician. We are looking for a dedicated, high-energy individual who will learn our entire co-packing operation from the ground up.

This paid apprenticeship offers hands-on experience. You will start by mastering the fundamentals as a Machine/Line Operator, ensuring our packaging lines run smoothly and our quality is perfect. As you demonstrate reliability, sharp attention to detail, and a knack for the work, we will progressively train you in forklift operation, freight logistics, floor leadership, and ultimately, the maintenance and repair of our complex Bartelt horizontal packaging machinery.

Note: You will start as an hourly employee during your foundational training. Once you become the ultimate "jack-of-all-trades" - capable of stepping into any role, leading the floor and maintaining the machinery - you will transition to a stable, salaried position.

Responsibilities

PHASE 1 - Line Operator & Operations Fundamentals

  • Pack finished packets/pouches from the production line securely into shipping boxes.
  • Carefully monitor product quality and immediately report any defects or discrepancies.
  • Stop the assembly line, halt production, and notify the lead mechanic if a machine fails or a major defect is detected.
  • Follow all established safety, food-safety, and company procedures to ensure clean, compliant operations.
  • Communicate clearly and work cooperatively with your co-workers.
  • Perform regular cleaning and sanitizing tasks as assigned to keep warehouse and production rooms up to standard.
  • Consistently lift 50 lb boxes and bags throughout your shift.

PHASE 2 - Warehouse Logistics & Floor Leadership (As You Progress)

  • Get certified to operate the forklift, load/unload delivery trucks, and manage warehouse movement.
  • Step up to clear machine tracks, manage film roll changes, clear web failures on the line, replenish packaging supplies for line operators, and keep the lines fed.

PHASE 3 - Bartelt Technician Training (Your Career Path)

  • Train directly under experienced leadership to set up, change over, and ready Bartelt HFFS machines for various production runs.
  • Observe Bartelt operations to ensure conformity of filled products, adjusting machinery as necessary to maintain strict quality standards.
  • Ensure code printers are fully operational and printing cleanly on each pouch.
  • Troubleshoot mechanical malfunctions on Bartelt lines, as well as a wide range of support equipment involving hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical systems.
  • Maintain maintenance records and prepare reports regarding equipment, tools, supplies, and materials.
  • Ensure the proper use, care, and storage of all tools and equipment.
