R&S Manufacturing/AWC is seeking a dependable, mechanically inclined, and detail-oriented Machine Operator / Manufacturing Technician to join our manufacturing team in Houston, Texas.

Our company specializes in industrial thermal spray coatings, wear-resistant coatings, machining, and precision finishing services. The successful candidate will assist with operating manufacturing equipment, preparing and processing industrial components, and performing machining and finishing operations to meet customer specifications.

This hands-on position requires a strong commitment to safety, quality, accuracy, and teamwork. We are looking for someone who takes pride in their work, follows instructions carefully, and is willing to learn specialized manufacturing processes.

Responsibilities

• Operate and monitor manufacturing equipment, including lathes, milling machines, grinders, and other shop equipment as assigned.
• Assist with preparing metal parts and components for thermal spray coating and other finishing processes.
• Perform machining, grinding, and finishing operations according to work orders, drawings, and customer specifications.
• Read and interpret technical drawings, blueprints, work instructions, and dimensional requirements.
• Use precision measuring instruments, including micrometers, calipers, and other inspection tools, to verify part dimensions.
• Inspect parts before, during, and after processing to help ensure quality and compliance with specifications.
• Assist with surface preparation, masking, cleaning, and material handling as required.
• Identify and report equipment issues, damaged parts, or quality concerns to the supervisor.
• Maintain a clean, organized, and safe work area.
• Follow all company safety procedures and properly use required personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Safely handle materials and operate forklifts or other material-handling equipment when authorized.
• Perform other manufacturing and shop duties as assigned.

Qualifications and Skills

• Previous experience in a machine shop, manufacturing facility, industrial environment, or similar hands-on position is preferred.
• Basic mechanical aptitude and the ability to operate tools and equipment safely.
• Ability to read and understand technical drawings, work orders, and measurements.
• Familiarity with precision measuring tools, such as micrometers and calipers, is a plus.
• Ability to perform basic shop math and accurately measure parts.
• Strong attention to detail and commitment to producing quality work.
• Ability to follow instructions, meet production deadlines, and work effectively with a team.
• Willingness to learn specialized coating, machining, grinding, and finishing processes.
• Forklift experience is a plus.
• CNC machining experience is preferred but not required, depending on the candidate's overall experience.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to stand and walk for extended periods during the workday.
• Ability to lift and move materials and parts as required, with assistance or lifting equipment provided when necessary.
• Ability to work in an industrial shop environment with exposure to machinery, noise, heat, and metalworking operations.
• Ability to wear required safety equipment and follow established safety procedures.
