Machine Shop Technician

Heart Auto & Fleet Services is looking for an experienced Machine Shop Technician with hands-on experience in automotive engine machining, engine components, and precision machine work.

We're looking for the kind of person who's spent years working with engines and understands that being "close enough" isn't good enough in a machine shop. Someone who knows how to measure, inspect, machine, and prepare engine components correctly and takes pride in precision work.

If you can look at a cylinder head, block, crankshaft, or other engine component, determine what it needs, and know how to get it there, we want to talk to you.

This isn't an assembly-line position where you'll be doing the exact same thing all day. We're building out our machine shop capabilities and need someone who is comfortable working on a variety of automotive engine components and helping us grow this side of the business.

What You'll Be Doing

• Inspecting and measuring engine components for wear, damage, and tolerances
• Cylinder head inspection and repair
• Resurfacing cylinder heads and engine blocks
• Valve jobs, valve grinding, and valve seat work
• Checking and replacing valve guides and related components
• Cleaning and preparing engine components for machining and assembly
• Cylinder boring and honing
• Crankshaft inspection, measuring, and related machine work
• Measuring clearances and tolerances using precision measuring equipment
• Pressure testing and checking components for cracks or damage
• Assisting with engine rebuilding and component assembly as needed
• Setting up and operating automotive machine shop equipment
• Diagnosing component issues and determining whether parts can be repaired, machined, or need replacement
• Maintaining machine shop equipment and keeping the work area clean and organized
• Making sure finished components meet proper specifications before leaving the machine shop

Who We're Looking For

We're not as concerned about fancy titles as we are about whether you actually know your way around an automotive machine shop.

• 3+ years of hands-on automotive machine shop or engine machining experience preferred
• Experience with cylinder heads, engine blocks, valves, and internal engine components
• Strong understanding of engine clearances, tolerances, and specifications
• Comfortable using micrometers, dial bore gauges, calipers, straight edges, and other precision measuring tools
• Experience operating automotive machining equipment
• Engine rebuilding experience is a big plus
• Strong mechanical knowledge and troubleshooting ability
• Able to work independently and make sound decisions based on measurements and specifications
• Detail-oriented and understands the importance of precision
• Shows up, works hard, and takes pride in doing things right
• Comfortable working on a variety of engines and components
• Willing to learn, take on different types of work, and help grow our machine shop

We're looking for someone who understands that a good machine shop technician isn't just operating a machine. You need to understand why you're machining something, what you're looking for, and whether the finished part is actually going to work correctly when that engine goes back together.

Pay: $25.00 - $35.00 per hour
