Join Our Team as a Machine Vision Application Engineer! Valiant TMS, a global industry leader, is looking for a dynamic Machine Vision Application Engineer to join our Automation and Assembly division. This multidisciplinary position combines machine vision engineering with technical project coordination, hardware selection, supplier management, customer communication, documentation, and project support. While the role includes vision programming, testing, and optimization, its primary focus is the successful coordination, integration, documentation, and delivery of machine vision systems across a variety of automation projects.

If you’re passionate about developing advanced machine vision solutions and contributing to customized manufacturing systems including battery tray assembly systems, battery assembly & test systems, leak test equipment, industrial parts washers, and material handling automation, we’d love to hear from you

What You’ll Get To Do

  • Serve as the technical lead and subject matter expert for machine vision applications across multiple automation projects.
  • Review customer specifications and define machine vision solutions for inspection, measurement, identification, guidance, and quality verification applications.
  • Develop, configure, optimize, and validate 2D and 3D machine vision systems using industry-leading hardware and software platforms.
  • Select and specify cameras, lenses, lighting, optics, controllers, industrial computers, mounting hardware, communication devices, and supporting components.
  • Conduct feasibility studies, proof-of-concepts, design of experiments, and application testing to verify performance, robustness, and cycle-time requirements.
  • Coordinate machine vision deliverables with project managers, mechanical designers, controls engineers, robotics specialists, PLC developers, manufacturing teams, and installation personnel.
  • Communicate directly with customers to clarify inspection criteria, acceptance requirements, cycle-time expectations, part presentation methods, and system interfaces.
  • Coordinate with suppliers and subcontractors regarding technical solutions, quotations, lead times, and project deliverables.
  • Assist estimating and proposal teams by developing preliminary concepts, technical risk assessments, hardware selections, and project scope assumptions.
  • Develop and maintain machine vision standards, best practices, test plans, setup documentation, operating procedures, and project closeout documentation.
  • Support vision programming, troubleshooting, integration, commissioning, validation, and production launch activities.
  • Provide technical support throughout the entire project lifecycle.
  • Travel to customer and supplier locations throughout Canada, the United States, and Mexico, as required.

What We Are Looking For

  • Experience

  • Minimum 3 years of hands-on experience in industrial machine vision, automation, automated inspection, or related manufacturing systems.

  • Experience with 2D and/or 3D machine vision systems, image processing, robotic guidance, or automated inspection applications.

  • Experience coordinating technical activities across multiple projects and multidisciplinary teams.

  • Experience supporting equipment commissioning, startup, validation, and production launch activities.

  • Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree or College Diploma in Electrical, Mechatronics, Computer, Mechanical, Systems, Automation Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent industry experience.

  • Current or previous A3 Vision Professional Certification (Basic or Advanced) is considered an asset.

  • Working knowledge of industrial controls hardware and software, PLCs, robotics, industrial networks, and automated manufacturing equipment.

  • Strong understanding of imaging fundamentals, including lighting techniques, optics, field of view, resolution, camera technologies, image acquisition, working distance, and depth of field.

  • Ability to design, tune, and optimize vision algorithms for inspection, measurement, pattern recognition, OCR/OCV, defect detection, and robotic guidance.

  • Ability to interpret customer specifications, mechanical drawings, electrical schematics, and system layouts.

  • Skills

  • Experience with machine vision platforms such as Cognex, Keyence, HALCON, OpenCV, FANUC, or equivalent technologies.

  • Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and problem-solving capabilities.

  • Excellent communication, organization, time management, and technical documentation skills.

  • Confidence working directly with customers, suppliers, subcontractors, and internal stakeholders.

  • Ability to identify technical and project risks and proactively develop solutions.

  • Familiarity with rule-based machine vision algorithms and emerging deep-learning vision technologies.

  • Experience with scripting or programming languages such as Python, C#, or C++ is considered an asset.

  • Strong commitment to workplace safety and quality.

  • Teamwork

  • Ability to work effectively in a collaborative team environment while also taking ownership of projects and working independently when required.
