What they need

Machinery Operator

Love Operating Big Machinery?

Daiken Southland Limited is looking for a hands-on Machinery Operator to join our team in Mataura.

If you'd rather be behind the controls of a loader, excavator, log crane or chainsaw than sitting at a desk, this could be the job for you.

Every day is different. You'll be operating heavy machinery, unloading log trucks, managing timber resources, maintaining equipment, and helping keep our MDF manufacturing plant running smoothly.

What You'll Be Doing

  • Operating a 35-tonne loader, 20-tonne excavator and log crane
  • Unloading log trucks and moving timber around site
  • Using chainsaws and other equipment safely
  • Feeding logs and woodchips into the manufacturing process
  • Carrying out daily machinery checks
  • Helping with basic maintenance and keeping the site tidy
  • Working as part of a practical, hardworking team

What We're Looking For

You don't need experience in a wood processing plant. If you've operated heavy machinery, worked in forestry, driven trucks, worked on farms, in earthmoving, contracting or heavy industry, we'd like to hear from you.

You'll have:

  • A Full Class 1 licence
  • Experience operating machinery or heavy equipment
  • A strong focus on safety
  • A good attitude and willingness to learn
  • The ability to work independently and as part of a team

WTR endorsements, forklift experience, or forestry machinery experience would be an advantage but are not essential.

Hours of Work

This role works on a rotating roster:

Week 1

Monday to Friday - 9:30am to 6:00pm

Week 2

Monday to Friday - 6:45am to 3:15pm
Saturday - 7:00am to 12:00pm

Why Join Daiken Southland?

At Daiken Southland, we value our people and are committed to providing a supportive workplace where employees can develop and succeed.

  • We offer:
  • Competitive remuneration and excellent employee benefits.
  • Ongoing training and development opportunities.
  • The opportunity to build a long-term career within a growing manufacturing operation.
  • A collaborative team environment where initiative, reliability, and teamwork are recognised and valued.

If you are looking for a rewarding role with a company that places safety, quality, and people at the heart of what it does, we would love to hear from you.

This role would suit someone who enjoys operating "big toys" and getting stuck into a variety of practical work rather than doing the same thing every day.

Applications

We will be reviewing applications as they are received and may begin interviewing suitable candidates before the closing date. If we find the right person, this advertisement may be withdrawn early.

We encourage interested applicants to apply as soon as possible.

Eligibility

To be considered for this position, applicants must have the legal right to work in New Zealand and hold a current New Zealand work visa, residency, or citizenship.
