Machinery Operator

Our client has multiple sites across Canterbury and Otago look digger operators, 2 ton to 20 ton, bulldozer operator, moxy and civil truck opertaors. New projects are starting at an exciting rate so don't miss this chance to join a great family owned business.

They are looking for operators to safely and efficiently operate a range of earthmoving plant, civil construction machinery, and associated equipment to support the delivery of civil construction projects.

Key Responsibilities:

Health and Safety

• Comply with all company health and safety policies, procedures, and site-specific requirements.
• Wear and maintain appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE).
• Identify, report, and manage hazards, incidents, near misses, and unsafe conditions.
• Participate in toolbox meetings, site inductions, and safety briefings.
• Ensure work practices do not place themselves, fellow workers, contractors, clients, or members of the public at risk.
• Follow all emergency procedures and site safety requirements.

Machinery and Equipment Operation

• Operate earthmoving plant and civil construction machinery safely, efficiently, and in accordance with company procedures.
• Operate machinery attachments commonly used within civil construction activities.
• Complete daily pre-start inspections and equipment checks.
• Ensure machinery and equipment remain clean, serviceable, and fit for purpose.
• Report equipment faults, damage, maintenance requirements, or safety concerns promptly.
• Work safely around existing services, utilities, structures, and other site constraints.
• Assist with loading, unloading, excavation, earthworks, material handling, and other machine-related activities as directed.

Site Operations

• Carry out civil construction activities as directed by supervisors.
• Assist with earthworks, roading, drainage, infrastructure, subdivision, and general construction works as required.
• Undertake manual labouring duties where required to support project delivery.
• Maintain site housekeeping and ensure work areas remain tidy and safe.
• Assist other team members as required to achieve project objectives.

Administration and Compliance

• Accurately complete timesheets, plant inspection records, and any other required documentation.
• Follow company policies, procedures, and operational requirements.
• Attend training and development activities as required.

Teamwork and Communication

• Maintain effective working relationships with supervisors, colleagues, subcontractors, clients, and the public.
• Communicate clearly and professionally regarding work activities, hazards, and project requirements.
• Follow instructions and contribute positively to team performance.
• Demonstrate a professional and cooperative attitude at all times.

Person Specification:

Essential Qualifications and Licences

• Full Class 1 Driver Licence.

Essential Skills and Experience

• Minimum three years experience operating machinery within a civil construction environment.
• Experience operating earthmoving and civil construction machinery.
• Experience using machinery attachments commonly utilised within civil construction activities.
• Understanding of civil construction practices and site safety requirements.
• Ability to safely perform the physical requirements of the role, including manual labouring duties where required.
• Ability to follow instructions and work effectively both independently and as part of a team.

Desirable Qualifications and Experience

• Class 2, 3, 4 & 5 Driver Licence.

• Current W, T and/or R Endorsements.

• Experience across earthworks, rural projects, roading, drainage, infrastructure, subdivision, or general civil construction projects.

• Experience with GPS machine control systems.
