What they need
Machinery Preparation and Yard Technician
Garton Mechanical Services | Whangārei
We’re looking for a practical, hands-on person to join the team at Garton Mechanical Services.
You don’t need to be a qualified mechanic — but you do need to know your way around machinery, be confident using tools, and take pride in getting gear looking and working its best.
This is a varied role working alongside our diesel mechanics and machinery sales team, helping us refurbish, repair and prepare machinery and equipment coming through the yard.
What you'll be doing
Refurbishing tractors, implements, agricultural machinery and other equipment
Assembling new machinery for sale, carry out pre-delivery checks
Carrying out pre and post inspections for hireage of machinery
Welding and carrying out general fabrication work
Painting and touching up machinery
Repairing panels, guards and other components
Water blasting, cleaning and preparing machinery
Carrying out minor mechanical repairs where capable
Keeping the workshop and machinery yard organised
Helping load, unload and move machinery around the yard
Assisting our mechanics and sales team when required
Generally getting stuck in wherever needed
Who we're looking for
We’re more interested in finding someone who is practical, mechanically minded and capable with their hands.
Ideally, you'll:
- Be able to weld and carry out basic fabrication
- Have experience painting or refinishing machinery, vehicles or equipment
- Be confident using workshop tools and equipment
- Have some mechanical knowledge
- Be able to problem-solve and figure out how to fix things
- Take pride in the quality and presentation of your work
- Be reliable and able to work independently
- Be physically capable and comfortable working around heavy machinery
- Have a full driver's licence
- Have a good attitude and be willing to learn
Experience with tractors, agricultural machinery, trucks, earthmoving equipment, engineering, panel beating, mechanical work or farming would be a big advantage.
The role
This could suit someone from a farming, engineering, fabrication, automotive, machinery or mechanical background who has plenty of practical ability but doesn't necessarily have a formal mechanical qualification.
If you're the type of person who can look at a rough piece of machinery and think “I can fix that up”, we want to hear from you.
Give Kyle Garton a call on [021 263 4452](tel:021 263 4452) to have a discussion whether you might be the right person for this job!
Unfortunately, we are not currently looking to accept applications from offshore. If you reside outside New Zealand or do not already have the right to work here, we regret that we cannot consider your application.
Other offers great for you!
