What they need

POSITION SUMMARY

The Machinist sets up, operates, and, when assigned and qualified, programs machining equipment to produce parts that meet established production, quality, and safety requirements. The role is accountable for accurate work, efficient machine operation, responsible material use, and timely communication of problems. Duties vary by machine, work area, training, and assignment.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

· Operate assigned manual or computer controlled machining equipment in accordance with work instructions, training, and approved procedures.

· Perform machine setup, tooling changes, offsets, adjustments, and program selection or programming when assigned and qualified.

· Read and apply drawings, specifications, work orders, and setup instructions; verify materials, tooling, and job requirements before production.

· Inspect first pieces and in-process parts using appropriate measuring instruments; document results and follow inspection requirements.

· Meet established production count and cycle time expectations while maintaining required quality and safe operating practices.

· Monitor scrap, identify defects and process variation, segregate nonconforming material, and promptly report quality concerns.

· Identify machine or tooling problems, perform authorized troubleshooting, and escalate issues requiring maintenance or technical support.

· Maintain accurate production, scrap, downtime, inspection, and other required records.

· Follow standard work, maintain an orderly work area, and participate in training, cross training, and continuous improvement.

· Communicate shift status, production issues, material needs, and incomplete work to the appropriate leader or next shift.

PERFORMANCE AND ACCOUNTABILITY EXPECTATIONS

· Production: Achieve documented count and efficiency expectations for the assigned job or production area, accounting for training stage and approved operating conditions.

· Quality and scrap: Meet documented quality and scrap standards; identify and report defects promptly rather than passing nonconforming work.

· Safety: Follow required procedures, use protective equipment, and stop and report unsafe conditions.

· Reliability: Follow attendance, punctuality, call in, and scheduling requirements.

· Ownership: Keep records accurate, communicate barriers early, respond to coaching, and follow through on assigned actions.

QUALIFICATIONS AND SKILLS

· Prior machining experience preferred; demonstrated ability and relevant training will be considered.

· Ability to learn and safely operate assigned machines and perform setup or programming duties as authorized.

· Ability to read and interpret drawings, measurements, specifications, and work instructions appropriate to the assignment.

· Ability to use measuring tools such as calipers, micrometers, and gauges accurately.

· Basic math, problem-solving, attention to detail, and accurate documentation skills.

· Ability to work collaboratively and communicate clearly with production, quality, and maintenance personnel.

PHYSICAL AND WORK ENVIRONMENT REQUIREMENTS

Work is performed in a manufacturing environment with machinery, noise, moving equipment, and possible exposure to oils or coolants. The position may require prolonged standing, walking, bending, reaching, repetitive hand use, and handling parts or materials. Lifting and other physical demands vary by assignment and should be confirmed for the specific work area. Required personal protective equipment must be worn. SCP will consider reasonable accommodations consistent with applicable law.

SCP CULTURE AND CONDUCT

Demonstrate integrity, respect, trust, clear communication, consistent follow through, and accountability. Support teammates, protect data accuracy, look for practical improvements, and pursue strong results while winning the right way.
