What they need

Kamatics is seeking a Machinist V (Manufacturing Technology) to support our Manufacturing Technology and Continuous Improvement department. This highly skilled CNC machinist will focus on prototype machining, research and development activities, process optimization, and standardization of manufacturing methods. The role requires advanced technical expertise, strong problem-solving skills, and the ability to independently develop, test, and refine machining processes while collaborating with engineering, manufacturing, and other cross-functional teams.

About Kamatics

Kamatics is a global leader in high-performance bearings and engineered tribological solutions for aerospace, defense, and industrial applications. Our team develops self-lubricating bearings and precision components that deliver durability, reliability, and performance in the harshest environments. We take pride in engineering excellence, collaborative problem solving, and a culture built on innovation and customer trust.

Job Responsibilities

  • Set up, operate, and troubleshoot advanced CNC machines (5-axis preferred) to support prototype development, R&D activities, and complex machining projects.
  • Perform precision machining on new or existing components requiring close tolerances, complex geometries, and high-quality finishes.
  • Collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to develop, test, and refine machining processes, tooling, and fixturing.
  • Support prototype builds, first-piece development, and machining trials to evaluate new manufacturing methods and processes.
  • Perform full machine setups independently, including tooling, fixturing, offsets, and program verification.
  • Validate and prove out CNC programs, making adjustments to improve machining performance, quality, and repeatability.
  • Identify opportunities to standardize machining processes, improve efficiency, reduce scrap, and support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Troubleshoot complex machining and process-related issues, recommending and implementing corrective actions.
  • Interpret engineering drawings, blueprints, GD&T requirements, and technical specifications to ensure machining accuracy.
  • Perform precision inspections using appropriate measuring tools to verify dimensional accuracy and conformance to specifications.
  • Document machining processes, setup procedures, and best practices to support process standardization and knowledge sharing.
  • Provide technical guidance and support to machinists and manufacturing personnel on machining techniques, setups, and process improvements.
  • Maintain compliance with safety, quality, and environmental procedures.
  • Perform other duties as assigned to support manufacturing technology and business needs.

Education

  • High School diploma or GED required.
  • Machining or technical training certificate preferred.

Experience

  • Minimum of 5 years of CNC machining experience in a manufacturing environment.
  • Advanced experience with multi-axis CNC machines (5-axis strongly preferred).
  • Experience machining complex components to tight tolerances.
  • Experience with prototype machining, process development, or continuous improvement initiatives preferred.
  • Experience supporting engineering or manufacturing process improvements preferred.

Skills & Knowledge

  • Strong understanding of GD&T, including runout, concentricity, and parallelism.
  • Advanced knowledge of CNC machining techniques, tooling, fixturing, and precision setups.
  • Experience with CNC machine operations, including dry runs, offsets (geometry and wear), MDI functions, and G-code fundamentals.
  • Strong troubleshooting and analytical problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to interpret complex engineering drawings and technical specifications.
  • Proficient in shop math and precision measurement tools.
  • Ability to work independently on complex machining projects with minimal supervision.
  • Ability to collaborate with engineering and manufacturing teams to develop and improve machining processes.
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to document processes and technical findings.
  • Ability to provide technical guidance and support to other machinists.

Physical Requirements

  • Continual standing and walking.
  • Frequent bending, twisting, and reaching.
  • Frequent use of hands to grasp tools and materials.
  • Occasional lifting and moving of materials up to 50 lbs.
  • Exposure to a manufacturing environment including noise, fumes, metal chips, and coolant.
