What they need
Job Summary
This role handles the day-to-day movement of mail and packages across the building, making sure things land where they're supposed to. You'll open the morning by sorting a stack of incoming mail by department, then work through delivery rounds as items get logged and routed. Some days are quiet until a shipment of packages shows up all at once, and then you're sorting quickly to keep the afternoon rounds on schedule. You'll also handle outgoing mail, which means weighing items, checking addresses, and applying the right postage before it goes out. A chunk of the job is just knowing the building, who sits where, which department moved desks recently, that kind of thing. We generally deal with a mix of internal memos and outside deliveries, so sorting them correctly matters. You'll push a mail cart on a set route, stopping at each floor or department along the way. Lifting is occasional, usually smaller boxes or bins. You'll log tracked packages so people can check on a delivery without having to ask twice. Growth opportunities exist for people who want to take on more with the role over time.
Responsibilities
- Sorting incoming mail by department each morning
- Delivering mail and packages along scheduled rounds
- Weighing and labeling outgoing shipments
- Log tracked items into the mailroom system
- Restocking envelopes, tape, and shipping labels
- Fielding questions from staff about delayed mail
- Keeping the mailroom area clear and organized
- Report damaged or suspicious packages right away
Qualifications
- You catch small details, like a name that's spelled slightly differently on two mailboxes, before it causes confusion.
- Checking in with staff or a supervisor about a delivery issue is something you do without much hesitation.
- When a shipment arrives heavier than expected, you work through it steadily instead of losing pace.
- Basic computer systems for logging and printing labels aren't something you struggle to learn.
- You show up and stick to the route, which matters since staff count on regular delivery times.
- If a label's smudged or a package looks off, you flag it instead of sending it along anyway.
- You keep the mailroom in order, so supplies don't end up buried or misplaced.
- Staying friendly with people across departments makes the daily rounds go more smoothly.
