What they need
Job Summary
This role keeps mail and packages moving through the building on a predictable schedule, so nothing sits around longer than it should. You'll start each day sorting a batch of incoming mail by department, then head out on delivery rounds once things are organized. Volume isn't always steady. After a holiday or a long weekend, mail tends to pile up, and you're sorting through more than usual to keep the rounds from slipping. You'll also handle outgoing shipments, weighing packages, checking addresses, and applying the right postage before anything goes out the door. A fair amount of the job is just knowing your way around, who moved desks, which department picked up a new hire, that sort of thing. We generally deal with a mix of internal memos and outside carrier drop-offs, so sorting them correctly matters more than people expect. You'll push a cart along a set route, stopping at each floor to drop off and pick up. Lifting comes up occasionally, mostly smaller boxes or bins. You'll log tracked items into the system so staff can check on a delivery without having to ask around. Once the route becomes familiar, the pace settles into something manageable.
Responsibilities
- Sorting incoming mail by department each morning
- Delivering items along a scheduled floor-by-floor route
- Weighing and labeling outgoing packages
- Log tracked shipments into the mailroom system
- Restocking envelopes, tape, and shipping supplies
- Fielding staff questions about delayed deliveries
- Keeping the mailroom clear and organized
- Report damaged or tampered packages right away
Qualifications
- You notice small inconsistencies, like a name that doesn't quite match a mailbox label, before it causes a mix-up.
- Talking with staff across different floors comes easily to you, whether it's a quick check-in or a question about a delay.
- When mail arrives heavier than expected, you work through it at a steady pace instead of falling behind.
- Basic computer systems for logging and printing labels aren't something you have trouble picking up.
- You're consistent about sticking to the route, since staff count on predictable delivery timing.
- If a label's smudged or a package looks tampered with, you flag it before it moves along.
- You keep the mailroom in decent shape, so items don't get buried under the daily volume.
- Being easy to work with helps when you're moving through different departments over the course of a day.
