Mainframe Developer

Profusion is partnering with a financial services organization who are looking for a 'Senior Engineer - Mainframe' to join one of their departments on a permanent engagement. This will be a hybrid working model, with the office based in Surfers Paradise.

The client is looking for someone with the following:

Must Have

1. Strong proficiency in mainframe technologies — COBOL and/or PLI, with working knowledge of JCL, CICS, IMS, and batch processing
2. Experience developing and supporting applications on z/OS in a production environment
3. Demonstrated comfort using AI tools for software engineering (e.g., AI coding assistants, code generation, AI-assisted debugging) — this is a core skill, not a nice-to-have
4. Ability to investigate and resolve production issues on the mainframe — abend analysis, debugging, and performance diagnosis
5. A mindset of curiosity and adaptability — willingness to work outside your comfort zone and extend into modern technology platforms

Highly Valued

1. Experience with Java, Spring Boot, REST APIs, and microservices
2. Experience with event-driven architecture and messaging platforms (Kafka, MQ)
3. Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines, automated testing, and modern DevOps practices
4. Experience in banking, financial services, or other regulated environments

Unfortunately for this role we cannot sponsor candidates, therefore please apply if you hold either permanent residency or are an Australian citizen.
