Experience: L3 / Senior-level IBM MQ Administration

Job Summary We are looking for a strong Mainframe MQ Administrator / IBM MQ Mainframe Administrator L3 with extensive hands-on experience in IBM MQ and CICS environments. The candidate will be responsible for IBM MQ installation, configuration, upgrades, administration, monitoring, troubleshooting, architecture, and production support in a Mainframe z/OS environment.

Only candidates with strong hands-on IBM MQ + CICS experience should be considered. Key Responsibilities

• Perform IBM MQ product installation, upgrades, maintenance, configuration, and troubleshooting.

• Administer MQ Queue Managers, Queues, Channels, Processes, Topics, and related MQ objects.

• Configure and manage MQ monitoring and alerts using MQ Explorer, OMEGAMON for MQ, TEPS, and related tools.

• Design MQ architecture and messaging flows based on application requirements.

• Create and manage MQ objects including:

• Local / Remote / Alias / Model Queues

• Sender / Receiver / Server / Requester Channels

• Process Definitions

• Topics

• Queue Managers

• Execute IBM MQ utilities for queue/message administration, including message backup, deletion, recovery, and maintenance.

• Manage pagesets and buffer pools based on application growth and MQ workload requirements.

• Administer Queue Sharing Groups (QSG) and MQ Clustering.

• Perform Queue Manager creation, migration, configuration, and maintenance.

• Conduct daily MQ health checks and automate Dead Letter Queue (DLQ) monitoring and processing.

• Monitor MQ performance and troubleshoot message-processing issues, queue/channel problems, and connectivity issues.

• Analyze MQ CPU utilization and SMF statistics for performance monitoring and tuning.

• Support integration between IBM MQ and other Mainframe products such as CICS, DB2, IMS, and third-party application servers.

• Troubleshoot MQ connectivity and messaging issues across Mainframe and distributed platforms.

• Provide production support, incident management, problem management, and root-cause analysis.

• Coordinate with IBM and ISV vendors for incidents, problems, software downloads, patches, escalations, and technical support.

• Provide 24x7 on-call / after-hours production support as required.

Mandatory Technical Skills

• Strong hands-on experience in IBM MQ / WebSphere MQ administration.
• Strong experience with IBM MQ on Mainframe z/OS.
• Strong CICS knowledge and MQ-CICS integration experience.
• IBM MQ installation, configuration, upgrade, migration, and troubleshooting.
• MQ Queue Manager administration.
• MQ Queues, Channels, Topics, and Process Definitions.
• Queue Sharing Groups (QSG) and MQ Clustering.
• MQ monitoring using OMEGAMON for MQ / MQ Explorer / TEPS.
• MQ utilities and message administration.
• Pagesets and Bufferpools.
• Dead Letter Queue management and automation.
• MQ performance monitoring and SMF analysis.
• MQ integration with CICS, DB2, IMS, and application servers.

Good to Have

• MQSeries / IBM MQ Client knowledge on distributed platforms.
• Mainframe z/OS, JCL, VSAM, ISPF.
• Basic COBOL knowledge.
• Experience with MQ automation and scripting.
• Experience handling IBM MQ vendor escalations and support tickets.

Production Support

• Experience working in L3 production support environments.
• Strong incident, problem, and change management experience.
• Ability to perform root-cause analysis and resolve critical MQ production issues.
• Willingness to provide 24x7 on-call support when required.
• Strong communication and coordination skills with application, infrastructure, vendor, and business teams.

Preferred Candidate Profile

• Strong IBM MQ Mainframe Administrator with proven L3 production support experience.
• Excellent hands-on expertise in IBM MQ + CICS.
• Good understanding of Mainframe messaging architecture and MQ performance.
• Capable of independently troubleshooting complex MQ issues and supporting critical production environments.
