Key Responsibilities

  • Assist the Maintenance Director with daily maintenance and repair needs throughout the facility.
  • Complete assigned work orders accurately and timely.
  • Perform routine repairs involving walls, ceilings, doors, hardware, furniture, fixtures, and other facility equipment.
  • Assist with patching drywall, painting resident rooms, hallways, offices, and common areas.
  • Replace ceiling tiles and assist with minor ceiling repairs as directed.
  • Perform basic plumbing repairs such as replacing fixtures, addressing minor leaks, and clearing minor drain issues within the scope of the position.
  • Assist with basic electrical tasks such as replacing light bulbs, fixtures, and other minor components within the employee's training and authorization.
  • Assist with preventive maintenance inspections and scheduled maintenance activities.
  • Inspect resident rooms and facility areas for environmental or safety concerns.
  • Participate in weekly environmental rounds as assigned.
  • Promptly report safety hazards, water intrusion, pest activity, equipment failures, or other significant environmental concerns to the Maintenance Director and/or Administrator.
  • Assist with maintaining walls, baseboards, doors, floors, ceilings, and other building surfaces in good condition.
  • Assist with room preparation and repairs associated with admissions, discharges, and room changes.
  • Assist with moving furniture, equipment, supplies, and other items as needed.
  • Maintain maintenance tools, supplies, storage areas, and workspaces in a safe and organized condition.
  • Assist with exterior maintenance and grounds-related tasks as assigned.
  • Support pest prevention efforts by identifying and reporting potential entry points, moisture concerns, structural gaps, and other environmental conditions that may contribute to pest activity.
  • Follow infection prevention and safety procedures when working in resident-care areas.
  • Maintain appropriate resident privacy and confidentiality.
  • Respond professionally and courteously to resident, family, and staff requests.
  • Complete required documentation and work-order updates.
  • Assist with emergency maintenance needs as directed.
  • Perform other duties as assigned by the Maintenance Director or Administrator.

Qualifications

  • Previous maintenance, building repair, construction, apartment maintenance, healthcare maintenance, or related experience preferred.
  • Experience with painting, drywall repair, basic plumbing, general repairs, and preventive maintenance preferred.
  • Skilled nursing, assisted living, hospital, or other healthcare facility experience is a plus.
  • Ability to safely use common hand and power tools.
  • Ability to follow written and verbal instructions.
  • Strong organizational and time-management skills.
  • Ability to prioritize work orders and respond appropriately to urgent maintenance concerns.
  • Dependable attendance and professional communication are required.
  • Must be able to work effectively around elderly and medically vulnerable residents.
  • Must meet applicable facility employment, background-screening, and health requirements.

Physical Requirements

The position requires regular walking, standing, bending, reaching, pushing, pulling, climbing, and lifting associated with routine maintenance activities. The employee must be able to safely perform the essential physical functions of the position, with reasonable accommodation as applicable.

What We Are Looking For

We are looking for someone who takes ownership of the facility environment and understands that maintenance in a skilled nursing facility directly impacts resident safety, comfort, dignity, and quality of life.

The successful candidate will be proactive rather than waiting for problems to become larger, communicate concerns promptly, complete assigned projects timely, and work collaboratively with the Maintenance Director and facility leadership.
