MAINTENANCE ASSISTANT

Thornton Heights Terrace is a Specialized Mental Health Rehabilitation Facility (SMHRF) located in the south suburb of Chicago Heights, IL. We provide recovery-based mental health services to adult individuals diagnosed with mental health disorders within a residential setting.

We are currently accepting applications for Maintenance Assistant. Under the direction of the Maintenance Director this person is responsible for the overall upkeep of a healthcare facility, including (but not limited to):

• Performing physical plant and equipment maintenance such as minor plumbing, plastering, painting, electrical, mechanical, and carpentry tasks

• Perform maintenance on exterior areas (grounds, parking areas, driveways) by cutting, trimming, sweeping, and/or patching

• Ensure that windows and screens are routinely cleaned and/or replaced

• Replacing burnt out lightbulbs throughout the facility and cleaning whenever necessary

• Maintaining required facility logs, i.e., air temperature, water temperature, emergency drills, equipment testing and servicing as requested

• Checking supplies and equipment to ensure that they are available, in good repair, and maintained in a safe and organized manner

It is also expected that this person utilize universal precautions, and follow policies and procedures governing disposal of infectious wastes and reporting of occupational exposure to blood, bodily fluids, and hazardous chemicals.

The Maintenance Assistant reports directly to the Maintenance Director and works closely with various facility departments, including Housekeeping and direct service staff.

In order to be considered for this position, interested individuals must:

• Have experience in planning and implementing repairs, construction, and equipment installation/maintenance

• Have a working knowledge of standard equipment use and maintenance

• Be highly dependable and punctual

• Possess, at minimum, a high school diploma or GED

• Be able to push, pull, move, or lift a minimum of 25lbs to a height of five feet, and be able to move and/or carry such weight for a minimum distance of 50 feet

• Be in good mental and physical health, have sound judgment, and a sincere desire to work with the facility’s population

Reliable transportation and an ability to respond to the facility 24/7 in the case of an emergency is required (on a rotating basis).

The position is primarily weekdays 11am-7:30pm, however, evening and weekend on-call responsibilities are a must on a rotating basis with others in the department so you must be available during non-typical business hours. Please let us know of any time constraints.
