Maintenance Director

ABOUT THE POSITION

The Loretto Motherhouse is the home of the Sisters of Loretto, a Catholic religious community in Marion County, Kentucky. Our campus includes historic buildings, residences, extensive grounds, farmland, a cemetery, and a nature preserve.

We are seeking a Maintenance Director to lead our maintenance department. This is a hands-on leadership role for an experienced tradesperson who can run a team, manage contractors and projects, and keep a large and varied campus in good working order. The Maintenance Director reports to the Director of Operations.

WHAT YOU WILL DO

• Lead the maintenance department — hiring, scheduling, training, and annual evaluations for a team that includes maintenance staff and security;
• Keep the campus running through inspections, repairs, and preventive maintenance across electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, landscaping, and drainage, including boiler heating systems in historic buildings;
• Manage facility and capital projects from bid through completion, including selecting and overseeing contractors and vendors;
• Oversee fleet vehicle maintenance and related records;
• Care for the cemetery grounds and coordinate burials, including serving as a pallbearer when needed;
• Serve as keyholder for fire alarm calls and anchor an on-call rotation providing 24/7 coverage for emergency maintenance needs;
• Develop and manage the department budget in partnership with the Director of Operations;
• Coordinate with other departments across campus to plan work and support programs, events, and guests.

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

• Approximately ten (10) years of hands-on building maintenance experience across the major trades — electrical, plumbing, HVAC, carpentry, landscaping, and drainage;
• Experience maintaining historic buildings is a significant advantage here;
• Experience with boiler heating systems;
• Experience leading a crew and managing outside contractors;
• Strong safety habits and a working understanding of OSHA requirements;
• Comfort with computer programs used for scheduling, records, and communication;
• Ability to operate heavy machinery, or to train and supervise its operation;
• Valid driver's license;
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule including weekends, and to participate in an on-call rotation;
• High school diploma or equivalent; college degree a plus.

WORKING CONDITIONS

This role moves between indoor and outdoor work depending on the season and the need. It involves walking uneven terrain, working in tight spaces, exposure to heat and cold, and lifting or carrying up to 50 pounds.

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS

Salary is commensurate with experience. This is a full-time, exempt, salaried position.
