Title: Maintenance Director - Ridgecrest

Location: YMCA of the Suncoast

FLSA: Non-Exempt

Leader Level: Team Leader

Hiring Range: $18.43-$19.02 per hour (45 hour work week) annualized to $45,500-$47,000

Supervises: Maintenance staff and volunteers including maintenance workers and custodial staff

The YMCA of the Suncoast is seeking an experienced, hands-on Maintenance Director to lead the maintenance and day-to-day facility operations of our branch. As a member of the branch leadership team, this position plays an important role in ensuring our facilities, grounds, and equipment are safe, clean, well-maintained, and ready to serve our members and community.

What You'll Do The Maintenance Director provides leadership and oversight for the overall operation of the Maintenance Department, including preventative maintenance, repairs, facility upkeep, grounds, equipment, supplies, and swimming pool operations. This position develops and implements maintenance procedures and schedules, identifies facility needs, and coordinates repairs, improvements, and special projects.

Safety is a key responsibility of this role. The Maintenance Director helps ensure the branch complies with applicable federal, state, and local regulations as well as YMCA safety standards and procedures. This includes overseeing proper pool maintenance, safe handling and use of chemicals, maintaining tools and equipment, and proactively identifying and addressing facility and safety concerns.

This position also recruits, trains, supervises, and develops maintenance staff and volunteers while providing clear expectations, coaching, and ongoing feedback. The Maintenance Director oversees contracted services such as housekeeping and grounds care, works closely with vendors, and collaborates with other departments to support programs, special events, and daily branch operations.

As part of the branch management team, the Maintenance Director prepares and manages the department's annual budget, monitors expenses, helps prioritize facility improvements and equipment replacement, and identifies opportunities to effectively manage costs. The position also supports broader YMCA initiatives through participation in branch committees, community activities, fundraising efforts, and special events.

What We're Looking For Research shows that some candidates apply only if they meet every job requirement. If you have the passion, skills, and desire to contribute, we encourage you to apply even if you don't meet every qualification below.

A high school diploma or equivalent is required, along with a minimum of 3-5 years of supervisory experience in maintenance or a related field. Pool certification is also required.

The ideal candidate will have thorough knowledge and experience with swimming pool maintenance as well as knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations related to facility maintenance and operations. This position requires experience with a variety of manual and power tools, including electric welders, saws, bench grinders, sanders, and electric drills. Candidates should also understand appropriate safety practices when working with chemicals such as liquid chlorine and muriatic acid and possess basic to advanced mechanical knowledge.

Successful candidates will be strong communicators and organized problem-solvers who can effectively supervise others, provide detailed instructions, manage multiple priorities, and remain productive under pressure. Flexibility is important, as this position may require varying work hours based on facility and operational needs. Candidates must also meet YMCA of the Suncoast driving criteria.

Physical Requirements This is an active, hands-on position. The Maintenance Director must be able to climb ladders up to 34 feet, lift and carry up to 50 pounds, stand or walk for extended periods, and repeatedly bend and stoop. The position also requires sufficient hearing and visual capabilities to safely monitor the facility, recognize potential concerns, and supervise staff.

Make an Impact At the YMCA, maintaining our facilities is about more than keeping a building running. It's about creating safe, welcoming spaces where children learn and grow, families connect, and people throughout our community can strengthen their health and well-being.

If you're a dependable, solutions-oriented leader who takes pride in maintaining high-quality facilities and leading a team, we'd love to hear from you. EOE/DFWP
