Reports to: Maintenance Manager

The Role

We are recruiting for an experienced Maintenance Engineer.

You will be responsible for maintaining the safe, reliable and efficient operation of machinery, equipment and site facilities through planned preventative maintenance, breakdown response, fault finding and continuous improvement.

You will have a primary site but may occasionally be required to support our Northampton location during periods of peak demand, annual leave, sickness absence and other operational requirements.

Key Responsibilities

  • Carry out planned preventative maintenance (PPM) and reactive maintenance.
  • Respond to breakdowns, diagnose faults and complete effective repairs.
  • Undertake mechanical maintenance and fault finding.
  • Apply electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic fault-finding skills where required.
  • Identify recurring faults and recommend improvements.
  • Support machinery installation, modification and improvement.
  • Maintain engineering spares, tools and equipment.
  • Work safely and in accordance with company procedures.
  • Provide guidance and mentoring to the Maintenance Apprentice.
  • Provide engineering support across both sites when required.

Essential Requirements

  • Minimum Level 3 Engineering qualification, such as EAL Level 3 Engineering and Manufacturing Technician or equivalent, with proven post-qualification maintenance engineering experience.
  • This is an experienced Maintenance Engineer position and is not intended for newly qualified or trainee engineers.
  • Strong mechanical maintenance and fault-finding skills.
  • Working knowledge of electrical, pneumatic and hydraulic systems.
  • Experience of PPM and reactive maintenance.
  • Ability to diagnose faults, solve problems and work independently.
  • Ability to take initiative and manage changing priorities.
  • Strong commitment to health and safety.
  • Good communication and teamwork skills.

Desirable: Additional engineering qualifications and experience supporting or mentoring apprentices or junior engineers.

Apprentice Support

Our Maintenance Apprentice is currently working towards the EAL Level 3 Engineering and Manufacturing Technician qualification, which they are expected to achieve over the three-year apprenticeship.

The successful engineer will provide practical guidance and support to the apprentice, helping develop their engineering skills and knowledge.

Working Environment

This is a hands-on manufacturing role involving regular walking, standing and manual handling. PPE is required at all times.

Shift working may apply depending on operational requirements. Flexibility to work at the other site will be required when necessary.

About You

We are looking for a proactive, reliable and experienced Maintenance Engineer who takes ownership of their work, is confident fault finding and problem solving, and takes pride in high standards of safety, reliability and workmanship.

You will be comfortable working independently, taking initiative and working collaboratively with Production and other departments.

What We Offer

This is an opportunity to join an established engineering function in a varied, hands-on role with the opportunity to:

  • Contribute directly to equipment reliability and production continuity.
  • Work across a range of engineering and maintenance activities.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Develop your skills across multi-skilled engineering systems.
  • Support and mentor an engineering apprentice.

Immediate Start Available

If you have the required Level 3 engineering qualification and relevant post-qualification maintenance experience, we would like to hear from you.
