Maintenance Engineer

Job Summary

The Maintenance Engineer is responsible for ensuring the reliability, availability, and optimal performance of all plant equipment, utilities, and facilities. The role focuses on preventive and corrective maintenance, troubleshooting, equipment improvement, spare parts management, and continuous improvement initiatives to minimize downtime, improve operational efficiency, and support safe and uninterrupted plant operations.

Key ResponsibilitiesPreventive & Planned Maintenance

• Develop, implement, and monitor preventive maintenance programs for all production equipment, utilities, and facilities.
• Ensure maintenance activities are completed according to schedule and properly documented.
• Conduct regular inspections to identify potential equipment failures and reliability risks.
• Maintain equipment history records, maintenance checklists, service reports, and maintenance databases.
• Recommend preventive and predictive maintenance strategies based on equipment condition and performance trends.
• Coordinate planned shutdown and maintenance activities with Production to minimize operational disruption.

Breakdown Maintenance & Troubleshooting

• Respond promptly to equipment breakdowns and production interruptions.
• Diagnose and resolve mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation-related issues.
• Conduct root cause analysis (RCA) on recurring equipment failures and operational problems.
• Implement effective corrective and preventive actions (CAPA) to prevent repeat failures.
• Analyze downtime and breakdown trends and develop improvement plans to enhance equipment reliability.
• Provide technical support and guidance to production personnel and maintenance technicians.

Equipment Reliability & Continuous Improvement

• Monitor equipment performance and identify opportunities to improve reliability, efficiency, and productivity.
• Drive initiatives to improve OEE (Overall Equipment Effectiveness), equipment availability, and maintainability.
• Recommend modifications, upgrades, or replacement of obsolete equipment and components.
• Participate in equipment installation, commissioning, testing, and performance validation activities.
• Support plant expansion projects, new machinery installations, and process improvement initiatives.
• Implement engineering solutions to enhance equipment safety, operational performance, and cost efficiency.

Drymix Production Equipment Maintenance

• Maintain and troubleshoot drymix production equipment including mixers, batching systems, conveyors, bucket elevators, screw feeders, rotary valves, silos, bagging machines, palletizers, compressors, pumps, motors, gearboxes, and dust collection systems.
• Ensure all production equipment operates safely, efficiently, and meets production requirements.
• Monitor equipment condition and recommend improvement measures to maximize uptime.

Electrical & Automation Systems

• Troubleshoot and maintain electrical control panels, motors, starters, VFDs, sensors, relays, and control circuits.
• Support maintenance and troubleshooting of PLC, HMI, SCADA, and automated batching systems.
• Verify calibration and proper functioning of instrumentation, load cells, level sensors, and process-control devices.
• Maintain electrical drawings, PLC backups, machine documentation, and technical manuals.
• Coordinate with external contractors and automation specialists for major upgrades and system improvements.

Spare Parts & Inventory Management

• Identify critical spare parts and establish inventory control levels.
• Maintain accurate spare parts records, BOMs, and inventory systems.
• Ensure critical components are available to support maintenance activities and minimize downtime.
• Review spare parts consumption and recommend cost-saving initiatives.
• Coordinate with Procurement and suppliers regarding technical specifications and spare parts sourcing.

Utilities & Facilities Management

• Monitor and maintain plant utility systems, including air compressors, electrical distribution systems, water supply systems, ventilation systems, dust collectors, fire protection systems, generators, HVAC systems, and facility infrastructure.
• Ensure utilities operate efficiently and support uninterrupted production operations.
• Coordinate maintenance activities for plant buildings, workshops, and supporting facilities.

Safety, Health & Compliance

• Ensure all maintenance activities are performed in accordance with company safety policies and procedures.
• Implement and enforce Lockout/Tagout (LOTO) requirements during maintenance work.
• Conduct risk assessments and Job Safety Analysis (JSA) for maintenance activities.
• Ensure machines are equipped with functional guarding systems and safety devices.
• Investigate maintenance-related incidents and implement corrective actions.
• Ensure compliance with statutory maintenance requirements, regulatory standards, and company IMS requirements.

Contractor & Vendor Management

• Supervise contractors during maintenance, servicing, installation, and inspection activities.
• Ensure contractors comply with safety requirements, work permits, and site regulations.
• Coordinate with equipment suppliers and service providers for technical support and troubleshooting.
• Evaluate contractor performance and workmanship quality.
• Review technical proposals and provide recommendations to management.

Documentation & Reporting

• Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly maintenance performance reports.
• Monitor and report maintenance KPIs including downtime, MTBF, MTTR, maintenance cost, and PM compliance.
• Document equipment failures, corrective actions, and improvement activities.
• Maintain updated technical manuals, drawings, maintenance procedures, and engineering documentation.
• Provide recommendations and reports on major equipment issues and continuous improvement initiatives.

Job Requirements

• Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechatronic Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
• Minimum 3-5 years of maintenance engineering experience in manufacturing, drymix, cement, building materials, concrete, powder processing, or related industries.
• Strong knowledge of mechanical, electrical, pneumatic, hydraulic, and automation systems.
• Experience with PLC, HMI, SCADA, VFD, instrumentation, and industrial control systems is an added advantage.
• Strong troubleshooting, analytical, and root cause analysis skills.
• Familiarity with TPM, Preventive Maintenance, Predictive Maintenance, OEE, Lean Manufacturing, and Continuous Improvement methodologies.
• Knowledge of maintenance KPI management, asset reliability, and spare parts planning.
• Proficient in Microsoft Office and maintenance reporting systems.
• Strong leadership, communication, and problem-solving skills.
• Able to work independently and under pressure in a manufacturing environment.

Pay: RM3,000.00 - RM5,500.00 per month
