POSITION: MAINTENANCE FITTER

About the Role: We are looking for a skilled and reliable Maintenance Fitter to join our bakery production team. The successful candidate will be responsible for maintaining, repairing, and ensuring the reliable operation of bakery production equipment, machinery, and related plant systems. This role is ideal for a hands-on maintenance professional who can work effectively in a fast-paced production environment and understands the importance of equipment reliability, food safety, and preventative maintenance.

· Location of position: Durban, KwaZulu – Natal

The position will be responsible for:

• Perform preventative and corrective maintenance on bakery production machinery and equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical faults and carry out repairs efficiently to minimise production downtime.
• Inspect machinery regularly and identify potential equipment failures before they occur.
• Maintain equipment such as mixers, ovens, conveyors, dough handling equipment, packaging machinery, pumps, gearboxes, and associated mechanical systems.
• Conduct equipment installations, modifications, adjustments, and machine changeovers as required.
• Maintain accurate maintenance records and report breakdowns and recurring faults.
• Assist with planned maintenance shutdowns and equipment improvement projects.
• Ensure all maintenance work complies with health and safety, food safety, and company standards.
• Maintain a clean, safe, and organised maintenance workshop and work area.
• Work closely with production teams to resolve equipment issues and improve machine reliability.
• Respond promptly to breakdowns and maintenance call-outs when required.

To be successful in this role you will need to meet the below requirements:

• Qualified Fitter / Mechanical Fitter with a recognised trade qualification.
• Relevant experience in a bakery, food manufacturing, FMCG, or production environment will be advantageous.
• Strong mechanical fault-finding and problem-solving skills.
• Experience with conveyors, bearings, chains, sprockets, gearboxes, pumps, pneumatic systems, and general production machinery.
• Ability to read and interpret mechanical drawings and equipment manuals.
• Good understanding of preventative and planned maintenance.
• Ability to work shifts, weekends, public holidays, and overtime when required.
• Strong commitment to workplace safety and food hygiene standards.
