Primary Responsibilities

Every day will be different; however, your core responsibilities will be to:

  • You’re responsible for the overall maintenance strategy and planning, including critical ongoing maintenance issues
  • Complete repairs to guestrooms, utilising contractors or specialists as required when activities are out of technical scope
  • On shift, you’re always on-call for urgent maintenance / repair requests
  • Where circumstances prevent attending to urgent matters, you advise the manager on duty to obtain additional assistance so that matters can be dealt with as quickly as possible and you always follow-up
  • Complete routine cleaning of air conditioning filters, plant rooms and equipment as designated, as well as all routine preventative maintenance checks
  • You’re always driving continual improvement of the preventative maintenance system and implementation of the Asset Services Audit guidelines
  • Project Manager is one of the many hats you wear – you coordinate all major capital works with the hotel, council, regulatory bodies to ensure a smooth implementation and minimal disruption
  • Prepare cost estimates for work orders of significant expenditure
  • You’re proactive in providing input and recommendations regarding the Hotel’s proposed capital expenditure and capital works planning for head office and owner’s review
  • The engineering/maintenance operational budget is maintained under your close eye and key stakeholders informed when circumstances prevent adherence to this
  • Risk management is a priority, including observance of technical and statutory standards
  • You manage and monitor the engagement of contracts with sub-contractors
  • You liaise with all departments to ensure good housekeeping of plant and machinery
  • Under your watch, the inventory of spare parts is maintained and up to date
  • Provide a coordinate response to energy savings, water consumption limitations, waste disposal limitations and greenhouse gas abatement
  • You’re no stranger to reporting and compile monthly reports relating to engineering/maintenance as required
  • Responsible for investigating and recommendation of sources for parts and also contractors for projects ensuring a cost-effective approach and that this complies with policies and procedures
  • Challenge the process by consistently exploring new suppliers and contractors to enhance plant and machinery within the hotel
  • Health and safety is key – you’re always on the lookout for any hazards which should be reported timely, and ensure all work health and safety procedures and policies are followed

Your communication is unrivalled, and you always provide a clear and concise information to others as needed and during shift handover
