What they need

About the opportunity
We’re seeking a hands-on Maintenance professional to join an established food manufacturing site in Sydney, running 24/5 with a stable, long-serving workforce. This is a working role. You’ll be on the tools every day, diagnosing and repairing mechanical and electrical equipment, and building the maintenance program as you go.
The maintenance team is currently small, with intention to grow it, starting with a Trades Assistant once the team is settled. You’ll help shape that team from the start.
Reports to: Site Leader
Employment type: Full-time, permanent
Hours: Day shift, 6:00am to 2:00pm Monday to Friday

About the role
This is a floor-based role for a tradesperson who wants to own the equipment and grow with the site. You’ll work alongside long-tenured operators, come forward with your own plan to fix problems, and move the site towards preventative maintenance. As the team develops, the role is planned to move towards planning, scheduling and projects.

Key responsibilities

  • Diagnose, troubleshoot and repair mechanical and electrical faults on mixers, conveyors, augers, blowers, packers and palletising equipment
  • Fault-find on SCADA/PLC-driven lines
  • Take ownership of issues and come forward with a plan, including ordering parts and engaging contractors
  • Supervise and coordinate contractors, including running permits
  • Build out preventative maintenance tasks in the MEX CMMS
  • Raise POs, track project spend in Excel and manage work orders through to completion
  • Keep the workshop and critical spares organised for quick change-outs
  • Maintain a strong safety focus on every job
  • Be part of the on-call roster

About you
You’re a hands-on tradesperson who takes pride in your work, has a strong interest in machinery and makes sound decisions quickly without compromising on safety.
You will ideally have:

  • A dual trade (electrical and mechanical)
  • Alternatively, a fitter with a disconnect/reconnect licence, or an electrician comfortable picking up a spanner
  • Hands-on experience in a manufacturing or food processing environment
  • Some supervisory or leadership exposure, or a clear interest in growing into it
  • Comfort with a CMMS, purchase orders and basic Excel
  • Clear English communication, important for safety on the floor
  • Current working rights in Australia

Why this role

  • Real hands-on ownership of the equipment and the maintenance program
  • Opportunity to help build a maintenance team as the site grows
  • A clean, dry, well-kept site with a stable, positive culture and regular team events
  • Join a long-tenured workforce that values stability
  • Planned progression into planning, scheduling and projects as the team grows
  • Strong internal training and supervisory development available
